I suspect (but do not know for sure) that DuraCoat is just a name for some type of clear coat. It is likely a clear polyurethane or polyester applied using the powder coating process. As long as the coating is not compromised and retains good adhesion the wheels will look good and upkeep will be nothing more than washing dirt from the wheels.

But if the surface is broken and moisture gets under the surface, corrosion will begin. I believe that corrosion will travel and literally lift the clear finish off the surface of the aluminum as it expands. The wheels can be washed and waxed but the only thing that will stop the corrosion is to strip the clear finish, repolish the wheels and recoat the wheels. I can say that finishing anything that is aluminum is a challenge and as long as the finish is intact, adhering to the aluminum life is good, but once corrosion starts beneath the surface there is no substitute for a complete stripping, proper surface pretreatment and a new coating.

Every plane owner is painfully aware of what it takes to stop or reverse corrosion beneath the surface of an aluminum paint job.

Hey guys my names Tyler, I’m a prefessional metal polisher living in Nashville Tennessee as you all know as the bus capitol of the U.S. . Prevost coaches make up 95% of what I do. I just wanted to let you know a full stainless job costs no less than $1300 ranging up to $3000. Where as a set of wheels go for a mere $80 to $150.

    Tyler,

For now our ads are free. Why not put up an ad so everyone knows how to get in touch with you. This would be especially good for folks who are getting some service at Prevost in Nashville and want to have their wheels or coach shined up.

Can’t remember if I ever posted what 2 different tour bus venues have told me, (duh old age?) but they utilize the Jet Dry product our loving wives like to use in the Dishwasher to prevent spotting! I use it diluted and it seems to do as well as the dishwasher and if it reduces any thing, it is good. Just my 4 cents worth! (Thanks Congress!)

I would like your contact info, Tyler. Next time I’am through Nashville I could go early to get a couple areas addressed by you.

Take Jon up on the offer…free ads are good for the budget !

    Tyler,

If you like, Tom can create a nice ad for you. If you don’t have a logo or web site you two may have to get a little creative, but just the convenience of having someone available to do some polishing while folks are passing through Nashville or are there for service could be a nice opportunity for PC members and you.

As our coaches get a few years on them we don’t realize how the polish on the wheels and skins get a little hazy and have less of a shine.

hey there Rob. let me just throw this out at ya, my partner, Tyler, turned me on to the site here. it’s great seeing all of the posts back and forth. but please beware of a cheap price tag on polishing the skins. $300, like you said, wouldn’t even cover the cost of supplies that it takes to do the job. you can ask my wife, she cringes ever time i go to my supplier. which, here lately has been almost weekly.

hey Gary, you can have the Dura-bright wheels polished. they won’t, of coarse, mirror out like a non-coated wheel, however, they can come close to that original finish. we do that every week here in Nashville. a lot of the entertainer lease companies have started going to these. and they still call us in to polish them out.

I used Almost Chrome last time I was at Prevost TN and was VERY happy with the wash and wheel polish I got from them. I would highly recommend them if you are in the area. They are over at Prevost all the time. I will use them next time I am there! Maybe a wax this time too….didn’t have enough time to get that done the last time in…

Hey there rob, it’s really up to you how often you have your coaches wheels polished. We do some entertainer coaches wheels as often as every 3 weeks. It just depends on the amount of shine you desire. The stainless on your coach takes alot longer to succumb to the elements and will require years for the metal to “oxidize” or “turn”. Both are polished using heavy duty buffing supplies that you can’t just run down the street and pick up, if you know what I mean.
