Polishing/Waxing
Hello everyone.
We bought Jon’s ’97 Liberty a couple of weeks ago(!). This is my first post on this forum, and I don’t have an avatar/signature yet.
Everything on the bus is good mechanically (thanks, Jon!!), so I decided to polish the entire bus. I washed it with Dove Ultra dishwashing detergent, to get strip away any old wax on the bus. I have been using Zaino products on my cars for several years, so I am going to apply Zaino polish over the next few days, as time permits. I went over the entire front of the bus with a clay bar yesterday, then touched up any small nicks (thanks for the touch up paint, too, Jon!), followed by a coat of Zaino polish. I will also use a clay bar on the back of the bus, before polishing it, as well. The sides just need a coat of polish but thankfully, no clay bar treatment.
Does anyone know if the roof on Liberty conversions is made of a different material (the part between the front and rear caps)? I presume that it should be OK to polish it, like the sides/front/rear? I did wash the roof with dish detergent, too, so it should be ready to apply whatever protectant I decide to use.
Once I get a coat of Zaino on a vehicle, it is much easier to care for…just wash with Zaino soap as needed, and apply another coat of polish every year or so.

You bought the best pre-loved Liberty in the county and if the
interior setup had been to our preference, it would have never been
on the market. It looks fantastic and I doubt it could have found
a better home. Be sure to look in the safe, it has a false bottom and
you may find some gold. Jon can’t remember and the last time he
looked, he found one of his prized possessions, an 8 track tape of
Bobby Darin, his favorite song being Mack the Knife.Keep digging in the all the compartments, you’ll find treasure.

What is a clay bar? Are you saying Jewelers Rouge?

The roof is the same type and quality paint as the rest of the coach. I don’t see any problems waxing it. If you notice I used a flowable sealer over joints and roof penetrations. I used a clear sealer available at Camping World.
Since a coat of wax may adversely affect adhesion of possible future sealer applications you may want to do an application of sealer now. I masked it off, and while the sealer was still wet, pulled the tape. It made a nice clean job.

It is the new compounding compound. You are polishing with real fine mineral crystals. Smooths, removes oxidation and polishes out swirl marks. It is an abrasive polishing material and thus removes finish.

I use the all in one (AIO) product, with Z-6 finishing spray. Always wash with Dawn ultra first, then use clay bar, then apply Zaino polish, followed by the Z-6 spray. Then, only wash with the Zaino soap as needed. One bottle of “all in one” will do a whole bus, as will one bottle of Z-6. A little goes a LONG way. You can get clay bars from Zaino, too.

Now I know most of the folks on this forum, if not personally, certainly by their many posts.
So when I read Sam describing his washing and waxing program I am trying to figure out exactly who on here is going to be dragging the ladder out of storage to get up there and wax the bus. So far I can count all who might think about it on the fingers of one hand. Of those who would actually think about it, I am thinking there are one, maybe two who actually would wash and wax their own coach.
And one of those has been grumbling about polishing his wheels so he may drop out of contention.
At least Diane is honest and doesn’t even pretend she is going to do the work. I suspect her offer to have Sam wax her coach was not said in jest. I see some bartering going on here.
Be careful of this bunch Sam, given the opportunity they will have you doing waxing demonstrations on their coaches at future rallies.

Congratulations on the finest ’97 out there!
BTW, I have washed, though not waxed, my own coach. I may even do it again someday.
Make sure you are part of PUP. That’s where the fun is starting!
