Planning a trip to bar harbor next August. Any insights into either of these campgrounds? Or other recommendations.

    Joe & Beckie,

Bar Harbor is a neat place to visit and there is lots to do in that area. But, beware, this is one of Maine’s top tourist attractions, so the town will be full of them.

Make sure to visit Acadia National Park.

During August, Rockland hosts a boat show. But it is not the ritzy, gleaming kind of boats. Rather, it is wooden boats, fishing boats and small boats and other crafts. It is a weekend full of activities.

I do not recognize either park mentioned in your post. However, I would recommend that you visit http://www.rvparkreviews.com where you will find recent reviews of Bar Harbor area parks. That includes 2 KOA’s. Of course, many other parks in Maine, too.

After you are done in Maine, head on over across the state line to New Hampshire and visit the Lake Winnipesaukee area. There is a State Park right on the shores of the lake in Gilford. The name is Ellacoya State Park. Large, solid and flat grassy spots to park your bus. Have been there a couple of times. It is a small park and every site is just steps away from the water.

Go swimming. During August the water is pee warm. Well, not exactly, but warm enough without having to fear a heart attack. The water is very clean, too. In fact, it is being bottled and sold under thename of Castle Springs.

    Cheers,

    Ronald

    Thanks Ronald,

We were up there 20 years back and returned to Boston via the White mountians. We had not really talked about an inland stop as I was thinking of just staying on the coast until cutting for the return home.

You make a good point about the crowds that time of year. We will consider it.

Becky uses the RV review site.

In Scarborough, we have enjoyed Wild Duck Campground for access to Portland and Freeport
