Pesky water leak
Ever have one of those leaks that only showed a few drops here and there? It didn’t seem too serious so you never had it looked at?
Well, this is what could be the end result if you don’t get it taken care of …

Could you tell us what we are looking at? What was leaking?
Is that flooring that it damaged or a sidewall?

Hello Mm,
Couldn’t figure out how to rotate my photo to make it look better, but this is the forward side of the salon slide in a Featherlite coach. The white sheet you are seeing is covering up the sofa, if that gives you a better perspective. We have pulled up all the brass rail and tile in the salon to see what is going on. All of the wood (3/4″ and 1/2″ subfloors) are completely rotten through. We are taking it all the way down to the metal lining in the salon and then will build it back up and replace w/ granite.
Still searching for the cause of leak. Will let everyone know what we find. Could be bad seal when the room is in allowing water to pool under slide floor so customer never saw it. Could be trapezoid window behind driver. Just too many questions at this point. The customers initial complaint was that a tile was “loose” so we popped up the loose tile to check it out. Here is what we found!

inner wheel well. For some reason that does not look like the original sub floor material. Does it have a lead or black membrane between the subfloor layers? Mine has a thin lead sheet. Fwiw Bob

It does have a membrane between the two pieces of plywood. That did not save any of the wood, however. It is all wet/rotten.

I want to add to the discussion since I have seen water damage on several occasions.
A tiny leak in the water bay that goes undetected for a long time will do the same thing. A small leak on the roof can travel and the damage it creates can end up almost anywhere because the leaks generally will travel down a structural member. A slide seal leak will do the same and can damage the coach interior or a bay with rotted wood being good news. It cannot be over stated that if moisture remains inside the coach it will be followed by mold and mildew. I have been in several coaches with that kind of a problem including one that was having repairs that cost well into 6 figures.
If you detect a leak, no matter how small or harmless it might appear treat it as a very serious problem, and not only locate and correct the source, but inspect carefully to determine the extent of damage if necessary.
