Peeling clear coat on front and rear caps?
So I have a bunch of bad clearcoat peeling on the front and rear caps of my 98XL. Sun does a good amount of damage to the paint in this areas (as well as along the top edge of both sides).
I am sure the best approach is to get these areas cleaned up, repainted and then re-clear coated. Problem is my guess is the problem will only be back in a couple years and I forking out another couple grand on getting it done again.
Have a guy coming out to actual do a vinyl vehicle wrap on the two caps and look at running a 9 inch strip of clear vinyl along the top edge of the entire lenght of the coach (both sides) to protect it before it starts to peel.
Will post up what the outcome is when it’s done.
Here is what I am looking at now.

He did the work himself and his description of the process was excellent.

So had the front/back caps “wrapped” and had the top 12″ of the “curve” on both sides wrapped in clear.
Color wasn’t perfect for the caps, but it looks a lot better then what I started with and should last a good 5 years. The clear that I had put on the top curve down the sides will help protect that paint from getting beat up any further and start peeling.

Charles, We are having the same problem with our bus. Any idea of the name brand of the product used? Looks pretty good in the pics comparing before and after. Thanks. Phil

All materials are 3M. Went with the heavy duty vinyl which is garunteed for 7 years on materials.
If you can get the color codes of your paint, they can print the vinyl to match. Basically they print it with the correct color, then laminate it with the clear vinyl so the colors dont fade. The clear is super thick and will really keep the top edge of the bus from fading any more. Will try to get some pics of that up in the next week.
Couple other guys here at the RV resort checked out what I had done and are already making appointments for their coaches. The sun just beats the top edges of these things.
