  • PDI needed in Arizona

Posted by Thomas on January 20, 2020 at 10:09 pm

    Hey all,

We found a Coach we are extremely interested in outside of Phoenix and need recommendations for a local PDI. Anybody have any experience with a local contact in the area and what should I expect to pay for a through inspection? The coach is at one of those consignment companies and would like an independent survey done. I will fly out to be there during the inspection and learn as much as I can during the process.
    Thanks for recommendations.

If you identify the coach there is a good chance someone on the forum knows it and history.

This group is a wealth of information.

I don’t know anything about this particular coach, but I notice from the photo that Premium Coach Group is apparently the broker.

I purchased my coach from PCG and dealt with Chad Stevens in 2015 and found them to be a broker/dealer of the highest quality with regard to honesty and integrity. I stated in a post then, and would say again now, that I would have no hesitation in dealing with Premium Coach Group again.

I’ll repeat my feelings, but try to be less verbose.

Some inspections have to be be done by professionals with the knowledge and equipment. Detroit Diesel and Allison specifically can pull up engine and transmission condition, codes and history.

You need a detailed review of the log books to determine the status of routine maintenance and repairs including fluids, filters, hoses, belts, air bags, brake chambers, etc. You rarely can do an adequate evaluation of those type items, services and maintenance history visually, and some very important items like coolant are critical to engine health to prevent cavitation.

If there are no records or receipts consider no maintenance done and that you have to start at the beginning to do it 100% to get a base point for your maintenance program. Or you can gamble.

The rest of the inpsection you should do yourself so you are learning and inspecting at the same time. Operate every switch, knob, control, device and system starting at some point in the coach (I start from the driver’s seat with the control panel to the left) and working your way through the entire coach determining what they do, how they do it, and that they work as intended.

If you need help get assistance from the owner or seller.

9 AM Just saw the picture of bus. Looked at this thread multiple times without picture loading. Did it just get edited or did it fail to load on my login?

Edited after your comment last night. I would be interested in your prospective on 1998 Royale. Any issues you have had that I might need to be aware of for this year/model/converter? Thanks

Others may add to this, but a 98 XL is going to have IFS. Early versions of the IFS had issues with the bushings in the A arms so look at the records, or get the owner of record to provide a report from Prevost that the A arms or bushings were replaced. In the absence of such information get Prevost to insect them. They can look terrible but the key is if they are still bonded properly to the inner sleeve, despite the lousy appearance they are OK. If they are loose they need to be replaced.

I am not aware of any other issues with that vintage chassis or the Royale conversion.

I am in Goldsboro just a few miles from you.

Would be glad to walk you through my coach.

I bought in August and never been in an RV.

Have done a lot of service work and learning since bringing it home.

I am a little surprised that so far no one has suggested the original poster contact Steve Bennett at Arizona Luxury Coach to inspect the coach he is considering. I don’t know Steve personally nor have I ever talked to him, but a two time Prevost owner for whom I have lots of respect for speaks very, very highly of Steve. As I understand Steve’s history, he has been around luxury motorcoaches for a long time. He formally owned California Luxury Coach and moved to Arizona a number of years ago. If I were buying my first or seventh Prevost in the Phoenix area, I would have Steve do an inspection for me: (480) 923-6515 is his number.

Good luck with your inspection trip!!!!! Keep us posted.

Seeing Premium and AZ Coach are competitors I don’t know how that would go over Dick.

Don’t think there’s alot of love left in the room after he left Premium.

I met Steve this past summer when we looked at a Foretravel he has for sale. He has an extensive knowledge of Prevost plus he also owns one himself, and I have called him for advise. I did not ask him to do an inspection due to the history with Premium but asked for recommendations for other independent inspectors. He has suggested two in the PHX area, one for the chassis and one for the house. I am still trying to get more information from Premium about this coach and have not had an acknowledgment from the email I sent with specific questions and photo request. Still hope that someone on the PC site will know something about this coach or the owners.

I purchased my current coach from Premium in August, 2019. Seeing your post brought back some memories. I flew to Phoenix the first week of that month with Jim Marsh, VIP Luxury Coach Consulting for the inspection. Jim was very thorough, and I highly recommend him. Made a deal with Chad on the price, certain repairs and a delivery date about 3 weeks out. No surprise, but the repairs ended up being more extensive than thought and coach was not ready on the date expected. While I was in Phoenix waiting (I ended up being there 10 days), Chad provided me with their tow vehicle and a place to set up a computer for work. Chad always seems to have a lot of balls in the air, but, at the end of the day, if you want answers, you need to speak to him. Salespeople are salespeople, but Chad has his entire business in mind. In my experience, he will do his best to see that you are a satisfied customer. Would I buy another coach from Premium Coach Group? Yes. But I would do a few things differently. So, my advice to you would be to stay on top of your requests. Be a pest, if need be. Feel free to give me a call. I will be glad to discuss my experience in depth. Hi Thomas,

We purchased our coach from Premium in May of 2019. We did not deal with Chad directly, our sales person was George Foushi. We ran into some title issues after the sale. We were not told upfront that the bus was titled in Canada and would need to be imported into the U.S. Premium along with an import broker helped guide us through the process to have the bus imported correctly with no import duties. It took over 4 month to finally received a U.S. Title.

Over all Premium did a great job, they fixed everything that came up in the PDI, but they could have been up front regarding the title. We would buy another bus from them, but we would ask more question regarding the entire acquisition rather than just being focused on the mechanics of the bus.

    Best of luck,

    Jerry,

Thanks for your info. I have spoken w Chad and he seems to be trying to do the right things. Who did your PDI? Was is an independent inspection or part of Premium’s assessment? Who did the repairs? Were they done before your taking possession or was it used as a negotiation for the coach?

    Thanks
