Hi All, Trying to figure out best route from Fl, to Driggs ID. Any body travel Hwy 191 from Rock Springs WY then on to Hwy 22/33 ( Teton Pass HWY ) through Jackson Hole WY To Driggs?

From Jackson to Driggs there is a pretty sever grade going over the pass. I think maybe 10% and very tight.

I have done it a couple of times but had second thoughts about half way up both times.

Would suggest you go on I80 to I84 and up through Salt Lake and take I15 to near Pocatello and to Idaho Falls.

You will make better time on the interstate but there are other more scenic ways to go.

Teton Pass is now a wide modern road although steep,, gear down going up same gear or one less going down with a jake or retarder, piece of cake.

But if you leave I-80 and go north to Star Valley Wy, the topography is relatively mild comoaredvtomteton pass. You have a a bit of a narrow road from Swan Valley, to Driggs. We have done in a 45ft H towing 22 ft truck

I entered in the destination in FMCA, and it came back with Jim’s route. Buddy is such a dare devil – 10% grade does not enthuse me. I remember the route out of Jackson over 40 years ago… doesn’t look like it has changed. I am sure we will have enough excitement on the trip without that pass 😉

Have done amateur astronomy for some time and have several telescopes which I plan to bring on this our inaugural 3 month trip with our bus. As it will by definition be around time of the new moon should have dark skies available at night. Has anyone inquired about having the school turn off their parking lot and other outdoor lighting, if not for the whole time at least for some selected periods? Would be a shame to be in a 6000 foot elevation dark sky location at new moon sitting under street lights.

Forgive me for being so bold to ask, not making demands, just floating an idea.

Great idea, Dr Lee. As time gets closer, I’ll contact the school superintendent about “outing” the lights

By the way, I’ll put this out there. Monty W, the “super” has asked if we need inside the school, meaning for a charge (unknown) use of rooms or gymnasium for showers or bathrooms. Teton Valley RV Park, which is southside of town has a bus friendly dump station Driggs also has a spectacular grocery store. Comment appreciated

My best guess would be Becky and I wouldn’t make much use of the access but if the fee were reasonable at all I would opt in. To have the access for some unforeseen reason might be just the ticket and use of a room might be handy for the group especially if we had a bad weather situation. Besides with the Superintendant and the school being generous enough to accommodate us they certainly deserve whatever benefit the parking and access fee might provide in exchange.

So this afternoon, I was looking at the map and wondering if highway 33 that branches off from highway 20 (at Sugar City) would be a good route. We’re thinking to be out west anyway, so would probably approach the area on I-15 from the Pocatello area, then Idaho Falls where we’d pick up 20. Also, does anyone have thoughts on a campground location before or after the rally? Linda

Hwy 33 is a good road from intersection of I-15, east all the way to Driggs. There is a very nice RV Park south side of Driggs, who said we can have access their dump station. It’s Teton Valley RV Park. There is a KOA in Idaho Falls. If in that area, you can take the car west of I.F. towards Arco out onto what they call the Arco desert, mostly lava fields. You’ll see some volcanic cones that lead you to Craters of Moon National Park

The falls on the Snake River in downtown Idaho Falls is unique lava flow design, in that the lava ledge creating the Falls runs parallel with the current.
