Oysterfest – Yes or No
In talking with Lynne this morning at Pandion Ridge, the corporate folks have issued instructions to close the Clubhouse. So this leaves us with no place for the Catering and that will be cancelled.
We can still do something like Pizza at the campsites and even that may be uncomfortable for certain people since there will be a large group.
So do we press on or throw in the towel? Pandion will refund the site reservations and PC will refund the Rally fee.
I assume things will only get worse in the coming weeks, so please give us your feedback.

A trip about then might be a nice diversion from the madness.
Do you have to make the decision now? I’d like to see this play out a bit although, it will have to be really bad for us to not hit the road.
How about a low country boil? I have pots and a couple of burners. Shrimp, corn, sausage, potatoes, onions, etc. Will need a few more pots and burners depending on how many folks bail. And assuming we can buy supplies.
Jon can use his IR gun to check me for fever before I cook.

I agree with Joe, I would also like to see this play out a bit. We plan on going unless things get a lot worse. I might be able to help out with pots and a burner or two.
I mean, right now I can still buy toothpaste, my choice of toothbrushes and greeting cards at my local grocery store. If you want anything else, you’re out of luck.
No kidding, the only full isle at the grocery store is the toothbrush / toothpaste isle !!!

Gail and I plan on being there unless things really get bad. That being said I think we should give it a couple of weeks and then decide. I just got back from the Cayman Islands on Sunday, the folks that I took down a week earlier wanted to extend their trip by a week. I explained that things are changing by the day and we needed to leave due to possible airport closures, which happen today. Here in the DFW area, all restaurants are closed, except for drive through or pickup, all gyms and movie theaters as well as all of the schools and most churches. So even though most of us want to go, I also agree with Mike and Joe, a couple of weeks might tell it all.

I have heard rumors that if things get worse they will consider closing highways to tourist resorts such as beaches etc..They have already closed the highway into the Outer Banks in NC I believe… want to go but only if things simmer down and some restaurants re-open in the area.

Miami and Saint Petersburg beaches have been closed, probably others. I will just go with the flow.

I’d like to wait a couple of weeks to make the final decision as well. We’re in a rather unique situation in that since BoB is actually our home, and we have no other real estate holdings, once we leave AZ, we’re pretty well committed for the summer. If things continue on their current trend without a change, Pandion may make the decision for us. State and municipal campgrounds along the path back east seem to be closing for an undetermined timeframe, as well as a good number of private commercial campgrounds closing, or not accepting new “guests”. We had initially planned to leave AZ for The Nashville area last week, but decided to stay put a bit longer. Not many options currently available for us around our normal haunts in the Nashville area between the tornado damage and the closures because of the virus. Hopefully things will become more clear shortly.
On the brighter side…Karen’s bubble wrap is intact and will remain in place for the duration of our time here. Pleased to report that so far she’s upright and reasonably healthy, despite a bit of chaffing!!

Maybe not the right place to post this, but if any full timers need a place to spend some time if campgrounds start shutting down, I have room a half-hour from Kansas City. Could get you plugged in to power and water, and dumping would be no problem. Strange times we’re experiencing.

Since it’s a given that we won’t be providing the food and beverages that we usually do, we have refunded everyone their 2000 Rally Fee.
Sounds like it will be up to the individual whether they go anyway, so the weeks ahead should sort it all out.
We can still have a good time just getting together, 6 ft apart of course and Joe already agreed to feed everyone outside. Jon will show off his Lithium Battery install, you’ll have to use a mask, he doesn’t want his new batteries contaminated.
We’ll all get through this nightmare, keep the faith.

This crisis has gotten so bad we have amended our policy of only wiping on even numbered days. Effective immediately we are now using both sides of the toilet paper.
If you think the above is absurd, you can also think I am giving my finger to the frenzy and will continue to live life as we always do. We will be in Pandion Ridge as planned. If you think I am wrong, oh well.

Sheila an I are out. While I usually refrain from commenting on people’s posts I feel I must. I am an anesthesiologist. I am on the front line of this medical and societal disaster. I can tell you it is as bad or worse than it is being reported. We already have 5 on ventilators waiting to be confirmed. That’s today! At the current rate we will be out of ventilators 5-7 days. Meanwhile the jack ass in Washington tells me it’s not his responsibility to get supplies to the hospitals – “We are not a store clerk.” it is a disgrace. This type of response should worry us all. There will be nobody to care for any of us if we don’t get serious. We need a coordinated federal response not bullshit.
I have three partners out on quarantine with two positive. As everyone talks about the hype I am being told to use a god damn bandana when the masks run out; and they are about out (1-2weeks at best I’m told). I’m told I get one mask a day that I need to keep in a paper bag when I’m not wearing it. We are one week from being out of hand sanitizer.
Even with this I show up out of a sense of duty to more than myself. All I ask is we all take it seriously. Frankly the average age of our group puts us in the “high risk” group. Let’s not lose anyone we don’t have to.
Sorry for the emotional response but I felt the need to try and make it real from the front line.
Alabama restrictions:
- All gatherings of 25 persons or more, or gatherings of any size that cannot maintain a consistent six-foot distance between persons, are prohibited. This Order shall apply to all gatherings, events or activities that bring 25 or more persons in a single room or single space at the same time.
- Any restaurant, bar, brewery or similar establishments shall not permit on-premise consumption of food or drink. Governor Ivey continues to encourage patrons to visit their local eateries for take-out or delivery provided the social distancing protocols include maintaining a consistent six-foot distance between persons are followed.
- All beaches will be closed effective today at 5:00 p.m. For clarification, the term “beach” means the sandy shoreline area abutting the Gulf of Mexico, whether privately or publicly owned, including beach access points.
