Am I reading the dates right?

Is it really 2 weeks? That must be a typo!

Other than that, I think we’re gonna try and

Get there on our way North this year.

It should be 19 thru 23 April. Truk will have to verify and fix the first post.

Give me a break, it’s Buddy’s fault, I was typing and he told me he found Chinese batteries for 790.

Buddy is lying to you…………he told me he could get them for $59 with a 10 year guarantee. I think he didn’t want you to feel bad.

We are passing through town, staying for a couple of days and wanted to go out for oysters. Our favorite restaurant, Shipps Harbor Grill, has closed a few weeks ago, after a fire in the kitchen. So … we thought … we will go to Wintzell’s on Perdido Beach Blvd in Orange Beach.

We found the place dark, no more Wintzell’s signs out front and a Google search just now indicates they are no longer at this location. The nearest Wintzell’s is now in Fairhope, AL.

    🙁

That is seriously bad news and I will now begin a period of mourning.

Tom will be doing a happy dance.

Ronald & Gabi…I would suggest trying Cobalt, right over the bridge on Perdido Key. I doubt you will be disappointed. As a former Orange Beach condo owner until Hurricane Ivan wiped us out, Cobalt was our go to place.

You can always just go to the Florabama and mourn with a couple Bushwackers. Then anyplace you eat will taste good. But my bet is on Cobalt. http://www.cobaltrestaurant.net/

On Bella Terra’s web page, I see they have a 15 year age limit. Do we have to whisper “Tom sent us” to get a reservation? Linda

Jimmy & Laurie, thanks for suggesting Cobalts. We know the place and have been there in the past. It is a great place for when it is warm and you can sit outside but, inside, it is like a warehouse. Huge. However, we went there a couple of nights ago and the food was excellent.

    and anyone else craving oysters.

When we found Wintzells closed, we looked for another place and we found “THE STEAMER” in Gulf Shores, just a coupe of miles North of the former Wintzells.

We have been there twice now for their oysters.

It is a hole in the wall place, nothing fancy. Plastic chairs and tables outside, wooden benches/chairs and tables inside.

But, it is the food we come here for …

The receipt shows that we must reaaaalllly like it.

For any one who has not tried Fairhope, Al…. it is one of the finest small cities we have ever visited….great restaurants… on the water and it has a superb shopping area for any type of tastes… cobble streets, etc.

This is the city that in March? closes the streets and turns several blocks into a huge market square attracting over 250,000 people … really special.

Ron. – we eat at steamers every time we’re in Gulf Shores / Orange Beach. I gotta say… you did some serious damage on those oysters. Never seen a bill that much there (and we typically have 6-8 ) – at least you get some free mini golf!! Bonus!

as for Fairhope. I have a buddy who lives there, and my sister in law of from Robertsdale – (just outside fairhope) A great southern town. I may just end up there permanently some day.
