  • OVER WRITTEN PHOTOS (Apple devices?)

Posted by Archived on January 27, 2016 at 12:02 pm

To say photos and posting of them has been an issue is an understatement. While we do not have all the solutions in place we are learning from your experiences and have some better understanding of how to deal with one of the problems most recently encountered.

When posting a string of photos from an Apple device such as an ipad or iphone it appears there is a situation unique to recent generations of Apple devices. The problem appears to be the devices do not give a unique identifier our system can use so the file name appears to be “image”. In your Apple device the unique identity appears to be an extension something our photo software does not yet see. At this point we don’t know if our photo software can or will be changed to see the file extension, or if Apple will change how it identifies photos on the current versions of their products. This was not an issue on previous versions.

The solution is if you want to create a post with multiple photos from a late model Apple device you can save the photos to an off device site like Drop Box or Google, all of which create a unique identity, or you can pull photos from the device, but can only display one photo for each post. For example, if you want to post multiple photos to a post and the PC system over writes and includes only the last image, post a single image and submit the post. Open another post, continue with the discussion and post another photo. Doing the photos individually will not cause the last photo to over write and replace the previous ones if they have been submitted and posted.

Keep in mind who is writing this. If I have spoken incorrectly I am expecting Tom or others way smarter than me to take issue with what I said above.

I don’t know if you guys have noticed this yet – but being a new marathon owner working on getting my bus up to date/snuff – I’ve been reading a lot of older posts. Years old posts even.

As I’ve been going through them, I’ve seen the one photo of the recessed light that I took and posted in one of my posts in these older posts. I’ve also seen the photo from Tom where he showed the over temp sensor hacked off in other posts.

Not a lot – but I did see it. Just wanted to share that in case it helps.

I believe that issue was addressed, but I don’t believe anyone went back and corrected all the posts or thread affected by that issue which is different than the one in which the lack of a file name is causing the current grief.

For you Apple mobile guys, you’ll see my Test post here in instructions. I posted that using Google drive and Dropbox will have the same result, no problem posting multiple pictures as you can see.

So while we’re working through this, if you want to post multiple pictures, you can easily download your photo’s to Google Drive or Dropbox then upload to PC.
