  • Our granddaughter’s in the BigApple!

We have a granddaughter who is a professional ballet dancer in NYC….when we’ve visited her, we’ve always stayed at Liberty Harbor. That was a convenient place, but I’m told they are closing down.

So, if they do close down, it looks like there’s only one other choice and that would be here:

    Floyd Bennett Field
    Brooklyn, NY
According to the trip planner I use, there are a number of low overpasses that would preclude using the Belt Parkway to that campground.
Has anyone stayed there and what route did you use to get there?
Or…even better, do you have any better suggestions for a visit to NYC? I hate the thought of wrestling my coach deep into the bowels of Brooklyn! Liberty Harbor wasn’t too bad!
‘Course I can’t go anywhere ’til I get my MH back from Jeff…little encounter with a tree!!!
    DUH!!!

    NO PARKWAYS is correct!!!

If you were to go to Floyd Bennett you would do the Verrazano to 278n to Gowanus Exy (rt27) east to Linden Blvd (rt.27) to Flatbush Ave south to FBF.

On Long Island, Nassau County, Battle Row Campground, Bethpage, NY.
open year round……Long Island Expy to Rt 110s to Spagnoli Rd west, 2 miles sign on left side past old brick bldg. You are about 38 miles from NYC, you could tale the LIRR from Amityville to NYC.

Liberty Harbor closing, that’s not good news. We were expecting to use it when we visiting our NYC and NJ friend this spring. I suspect that the land became more valuable for “something else” vs a RV park.

We lived in Manhattan from 2002 to 2005. One Sat or Sun we took our bikes to the end of the subway, rode them to Floyd Bennett Field, can’t remember if rode the bikes back to Manhattan or if took the subway/train back. What a huge amount of open space. As I recall in one of the hangers there is a group restoring an old military plane, there were one or two P&W R-4360 Corncobs sitting next to the hanger. No reason why the place wouldn’t support more than nine RV spots and why at least 50amp wouldn’t make sense … unless the governing body doesn’t want anyone to use the facility.

I checked with Liberty Harbor today and they said they are still open.
