They use it during driving tests for people with manual transmissions to see if they can start on a hill after stopping.
It is also a good place for me to back up coaches owned by owners that prefer to not waste their time doing pre-trip brake tests. I let them drive their coach down the driveway. If that doens’t convince folks of the importance of a brake check, ain’t nuthin gonna.It’s nowhere near as scary backing up as it is going down.

True story.
I rebuilt the brakes on our coach one time. I not only replaced the brake chambers, but I rebuilt the shoes. I removed the friction material from the old shoes (on our 87 which was all drum brakes) and replaced it with new friction material. So I literally had the bus pretty well stripped down at the axles.
When I had it all back together and everything adjusted I asked Di if she wanted to go with me on the test drive. When she asked how far I was going I said just to the bottom of the driveway. She declined. No guts, no glory.
Had the test drive not turned out so well I would have been able to answer Roger’s question about how deep the river is, and how cold it was.

shins is more accurate. Still have marks because I have been to lazy to cut off exaust discharge. Fixed that today after smashing thumb . Cut off 9 inches and it is neatly tucked under and exiting out side. Things we put off and leave a mark on our bodies!! Took 20 minutes. Just though I’d share the brain farts of the day. Bob

Bob, feel your Pain! Everything I’ve touched today has turned to crap. Dozer wouldn’t start and got charger on new batteries. Tree shear blew a hose on Bobcat. Jumped on Kubota Tractor and bent Grapple on front all to heck. Went to try and straighten Grapple with Rosebud on my old Welding Truck and diesel started pouring out of the top of engine. I ain’t going anywhere near Bus in Bus Barn today. No Sir!

Need to hire me a couple hands but then wouldn’t have any money let over to fire up the coach. Only have a 100 acres here and don’t know how Peter does it with a gazillion acres up there in God’s Country. Life ain’t fair for iggiots like me. Think I’ll head out and tear something else up. Got a couple pieces of equipment still straight and running and plenty of daylight left.

I’ve got fork lift attachment for my John Deere backhoe. Dropped one of the forks on my big toe while wearing sandals. I know, don’t wear sandals while doing stuff like that.

Was showing a friend a new front brake rotor for the race car last week. Slipped out of my hand, down the edge of the bench, and edge ended up on my foot. For some odd reason no damage, no pain, not even a bruise. Next time I won’t be so lucky!

Glad I’m not the only one to fess up. I can understand most of your adventures–I try to keep them at a minimum. Lessons hurt especially if it happens more than once. Be safe today. Bob
