I just picked up my new to me 1999 H at Liberty in Florida and among other problemsI .

I hate to see messages with headings as above. Could you explain a little more about your pick up / delivery. Taking delivery at the convertors yards has been a very positive experience in about 90 % of postings here on PC.

I think we need more information on this pick up / delivery . I have taken delivery of 2 Prevosts at Marathon headquarters, Taken pages of notes, spent an overnight in there lot, and then an overnight road trip. After all of this I was prepared to travel. On the last bus the only issue was a oil leak showing up after 500 miles on the Delco 50DN alternator.

We are here to help you sort this all out…….

Picked up the coach on a Thursday morning and was given a fairly brief instruction by service manager on operations of the coach. Basically told that one should just “use it to learn it”. I had previously owned another coach for two years (a Vantare 2002) and probably was a little lax myself in pressing the issue. Drving back to Dallas made 5 seperate calls for issues which were promptly returned and answered. I have no one to blame but myself (and maybe just a little on the dealer). The coach was a broker deal and probably at the low end of the money scale for them so I am sure I had less importance than someone who was purchasing a new one. Fair enough. As it stands today I am still without my satellite receiver working (they installed a new one but never got it hooked up). I was pretty insistent that they get this done but that didn’t happen. 3 seperate failures of the 24V switch on the way home along with warm air and no satellite made for a few raised eyebrows from the wife. Oh well, welcome to coach ownership lol.

    Dmark1…

That is disappointing to hear… I don’t think how much you spend on a rig should have anything to do with the service you receive… a customer is a “customer” at any rate in my opinion.

I would NOT have left there without the Satellite up and running if they installed it…. it should have been working…. along with the OTR and other stuff.

Were you in a big hurry to get out of there? maybe that’s what they thought ? Maybe they thought you knew more than you actually did?

They also know there is a huge difference in a Vantare and a Liberty on the learning scale…the electrical (one of the MOST important parts) is totally different.

“Just use it and learn it” is only partially good advice… yes we learn as we go….but you had better have a pretty good basic understanding first… We went through the same thing .. 98 Vantare to 2005 Liberty…. not apples to apples at all…. still learning every day and with many many thanks to all the GREAT folks on this site !! Couldn’t do it without them.

I hope you get it all worked out !!

    Cheers, Diane

The only question now is BBQ …. wet or dry

Did you buy the H from Liberty………your first post sounds like you did. Now it sounds like you bought it through a broker. HUGE difference.

When I bought my coach the OTR worked good but on a trip back from ETLC the light came on and no air. It was a cool day so I just opened the side glass and slid on home. Once home checked it out and the pressure switch had the compressor shut down. I looked at the accumulator sight glasses and there was nothing. Almost 30 pounds of 134a later we are up and running. Losing that much gas in such a short time denotes a nice fat leak. I also injected leak dye when I charged it up. Took a trip to gulf shores and then on to central Florida. Left Florida to Knoxville and had that new stainless poo tank installed at ETLC. Drove it back home and did a leak scan. As mentioned above there is a leak at the crank seal under the clutch but it is very minor only a little trace. Checked the condenser and evaporator and any and all piping that was exposed enough to get the light on, still nothing. I was still wondering how that much gas was lost in such a short time. I took another look with the light around the back side of the compressor and EUREKA!!!!! there it was. Dye all over the back side. There is a 1/2 NPT plug used to drain the oil. I put a wrench on the plug and turned it about 6 half turns to tighten it up. I guess finding and fixing a leak don’t get any easier than that!

Did I say that I love that OTR air?

Jon, I purchased the coach from Libertys “used coach” arm. The coach was on Liberty’s showroom in Stuart. I was not in a particular hurry, but again, mea culpa. I should have insisted on having the items that came up fixed then and there instead of trusting I could do it on my own. The 24V switch failure (twice) enroute was another item that I would have loved to have known how to fix prior to my leaving. My bus air is in the shop now in Dallas, hoping to find out if its a leak or a bigger problem. One thing I forgot to add, the red HP light came on on the panel several times, going out, then coming on again repeatedly until I got home.

My guess is that’s the main reason they run the Exchange for the older buses. I want to say that rehabbing mine, at 7 years old, was worth about $40k. On one twice that agree with more potential issues it could easily be a money loser for them.

I would agree, but the coach had already been through 52K worth of repairs and updates before I purchased it. Plus a 125,000 dollar paint job had been put on it!

Typically when the HP light comes on the condenser fan(s) are not working.

One source of confusion is when buying a coach from other than the converter is what is covered by a warranty. That is why we stress a comprehensive owner performed inspection so once the coach is off the lot there is no confusion about who is going to pay for what because the issue should be addressed then and there.

    If
the coach was purchased “as is” through the Exchange, then
I wouldn’t think there would be any expected assistance after the
sale for any repairs. I haven’t a clue as to what your deal was Mark,
but an “as is” purchase is just that, the buyer has the
responsibility to do the due diligence and should know what to expect
    after the sale.

See my previous post about an inspection prior to the purchase. Obviously as Tom points out a warranty is either part of the sale or not. That is not to say a coach won’t have a warranty if it is negotiated as part of the sale, but if it has not been understood by both the buyer and seller what the situation is regarding a warranty there likely is none.

An inspection is a vital part of a purchase. I am not suggesting items will never be overlooked or that something that works today will work tomorrow, but an inspection is better than hoping for the best.

GUYS! I am NOT expecting anything from them. I am merely stating a problem I have with my AC looking for possible solutions. This isnt my first rodeo, I’m really not concerned about placing blame here, just looking for ideas as to the HVAC issues. I feel like I bought the coach well enough I could drop 20 or 30 grand on it and still be ok. I am just looking for technical help, sorry it was taken the wrong way. :/
