OTR test day
Posted by AL on June 11, 2015 at 3:28 pmWe’re headed north bound Dallas to OKC. Temp outside 95 + deg. Cranked down the OTR air and waited till my wife said something about it.
About 1 1/2 hours later she says it’s freezing in here.
Dear, I want to make it comfortable traveling. Gets out passenger seat returns with a hoodie, long pants and a blanket. LOL
First bus I’ve owned with OTR air, it’s amazing and it’s really cold.

At 95 ambient I still have the heater on. I don’t need no stinkin’ OTR until at least 110.

We have been on the Weat coast with 100 plus but, when the bus air is on the wife said it is freezing in the coach.
I give Liberty Coach Lots of credit for going with bus air on their coaches. -
It would be hard to buy a bus without it !! We haven’t owned one without it !! Never run the generator which isn’t really good I guess but we are in Destin right now and ran from East Texas to Destin with just the OTR and me wrapped in a blanket !!
Love the OTR !!!
Cheers, Diane

Came home from Nashville today,. Shari was wrapped in her blanket all the way home!! Love the OTR Air!!

We did without our bus air for 680 miles this week while dealing with another problem that I will post about later. We ran the generator and roof airs but no comparison. There is no way I want to do that all the time.

I agree Davy , I use mine every week and its great in Canada right now and turn it on every time I start the coach just can’t do with out it

Ageed, Before we had it we thought it was overkill….now we like overkill alot. Besides, it’s AC of last resort if something else goes south you can always run the bus and cool things down. Geo.

Perfect day yesterday……………..
Temps outside 90 degrees. Temp inside 68. Windshield fogged over at the bottom near the vents.
Living large with OTR.

I just picked up my new to me 1999 H at Liberty in Florida and among other problems (some of which self inflicted) was the fact that the OTR air wouldn’t cool the bus at all. I was warm sitting up front in the afternoon and had to bring the shades nearly all the way down. Ran the bus with 3 of the roof airs running and it was passible but NOT cold. Finally pulling into Dallas I began to get the HP air red light on and just shut the damn thing down. I am NOT impressed.
As to the light I was told that the OTR system in 95 degree air shows this all the time and to more or less ignore it as it will reset. Of course it does, then red lights again, shuts down again, resets again, etc. etc.
Wish I had you guys OTR bus air mine appears to be showing its age….

Dmark1,
You clearly have some major problems… there is no substitute for OTR but it does need to be working right !!
Sorry to hear you just picked up your coach and have problems already… didn’t they run you through everything in your coach before delivery?
Hope you get it fixed so you can enjoy what we are always bragging about !!
Cheers, Diane

If you buy from liberty expect to do some home work just saying Tom and Jon can’t say that but I can!!!!!!
-
Peter,
Can you expand? I was under the impression that Liberty were one of the better sources for a used bus, and that you possibly paid a premium because of the extra care and attention. Having said that, I suppose we don’t know the terms under which this particular bus was sold.

OTR, especially on a 1999 coach is likely to need a close inspection. Like anything else that is mechanical it eventually needs service. While the overall system is likely sound, one of the known service points is the seal behind the clutch on the compressor. It becomes a leak point for refrigerant and then needs to be replaced. It is about $100 in parts and a couple of hours of labor. But step one is to check the system. If in fact it is low on refrigerant that will bring on a low system pressure light. Another light might indicate high pressure and that could be an issue with the condenser fans, also a service item usually needing brushes.
If it were my coach I would get it into Prevost and have the system checked, repaired, and when it is working right it is extremely good. On an H with all the glass up front regardless of if it is in top shape or not you are going to be much more comfortable if you can keep the sun out to the maximum extent possible.
As to Liberty service……we have been getting some feedback and it has not been consistently glowing. For whatever reason the pre-delivery checks have not always been done to the standards Liberty owners have come to expect. As a long term Liberty owner I am hoping there are steps being taken to get back on track. All I can suggest is for new owners to take the time to check and double check everything themselves prior to leaving Stuart.
When I received my current coach I spent 2 days training and inspecting and was well pleased with the quality and condition of the coach when it was delivered to us. And from experience I do know if something unexpected does show up Liberty stands behind it with no hesitation. The feedback I have gotten indicates new owners did find some issues, but apart from a slight inconvenience as a result every single one of the issues was taken care of. To be honest, I don’t know how such complex coaches can have every single issue identified prior to delivery because there is so much to check and some problems require someone to spend a lot of time with the coach before the problems are identified.

Dmark,
Did you get the Liberty PDI or was is purchased as is? Did it work when you took delivery or did it just now fail?

I am at Liberty now picking up my coach with repaired awning. Can tell you they are busy even in this off season. Our buses are complicated and from experience, problems occur when you drive out of these gates but I can vouch for Liberty, they make every attempt to assure you are satisfied and avsialle 24/7 to assist with issues,
A lot lot to be said for an XL no slide coach with no crestron, slides, etc…. I am parked nex to one now,,,,
