  • OTR HVAC voltage problem

    I have a 1991 H340 with Prevost OTR. Except for having to charge the freon every year it has worked great and we like the OTR heat as well as the AC.

    Going to the Arcadia, FL rally when I would turn on the OTR switch the 12 volt guage would start to fall fast. Turn off the switch and the volts would climb back to normal. I have checked the Vanner equalizers and both check normal. I have also check for a loose connection but not found one yet. Any ideas?

    Sounds like the amp load is exceeding the alternator/battery capacity. Could be alternator or regulator problems or the compressor for the OTR is failing.

    I’ll offer another alternative because the compressor is belt driven and needs no voltage.

    Check bo the evaporator and condenser fans. Make sure they rotate freely. Chack the brushes which are under the small plate held in place with a spring affair. The brushes useful life is over when thehy reach about 3/4 inch. If either motor is binding that is going to impose a substantial load on the electrical system.

    I have one of each . Evap and condensor. If you find that to be problem. Out of 98 XLE. real reasonable! Mine had a control module in Evap compartment also. Bob

    Thanks guys. I will check the motors. The previous owner had replaced one of the condensor fans so I will check them out.

    Robert, I have the evaporator control module as well. Are you saying it can be bad or just that you have one?

    I did a test of the OTR system with the evaporator motor disconnected and it does not kill the voltage. The motor also feels rough and does not turn freely. We removed the evaporator fan assembly today and removed the motor. I will take it to a friend tomorrow the rebuilds electric motors to see what is going on.
