  • OTR freon leak

Posted by Richard on December 10, 2017 at 12:59 pm

Late Oct. two hours into a trip OTR red light came on and bus got warm. Mid Nov. added 20 +lbs 134a and all ran cold but compressor oil was low (only bubbled in the site glass when running). Ordered the proper oil, all freon had leaked out (both sight glass beads were not moving and compressor would not engage due to low freon. Have checked for any obvious leeks with oil collecting on or under accessible lines and around condensers both for front driver air and bus air. Do know the oil cannot be added with system under pressure.

Any ideas? Have not had any trouble with the OTR in the 4 years owning the bus. Hopefully I’m missing something!

The compressor clutch shaft seal might be your problem?

Look for the wet oily spots. With the leak rate you describe you won’t need a leak detector. Compressor oil will be at the leak.

Can not find any oily areas easily accessible. Going to add some oil and partially recharge system to look for leaks with a sniffer after the hollidays. When fully charged no obvious leaks could be heard. Until then all possible senorios will be gladly received! Thanks in advance
