  • OTR dash air cooling

Posted by Craig on September 5, 2015 at 10:17 pm

I have my OTR air for the bus working good for my 1989 XL40. However the dash are does not seem to get cool. Does anyone have an idea of the best place to start looking? The dash thermostat does not seem to change the temperature much, if any.

The short story is: Dash curcuit expansion valve inop.

For the long story do a search using the word “Expansion”. I started a discussion in the HVAC area on 5/5/2014

It could also be a bad temperature control or the coolant valve is leaking and hot coolant is working against the A/C system.

But for sure it could be an expansion valve. If you only have dash air put a set of gauges on the system and that will quickly tell you if the expansion valve is not opening.

It seems that the expansion valve is wroking fine. I am wondering if my system is not charged properly. Does anyone know what the low and high presure should be? i am run about 40psi on the low side at idle and 140 on the high side. Thanks for all the direction.

Those pressures are close enough. Depending on ambient temps they may be just right or you might need a slight adjustment but your system charge is not likely the problem.

I believe the dash air has a solenoid valve in the condenser bay that controls refrigerant flow to the dash air loop. Is that functioning when you call for dash air cooling with the OTR system on? Is the temp controller sending power to it?

Craig, yes and no on those pressures. I’m too slow a typer to tell you all I want to tell you, so call me at 210-861-4118 if you like.
