I had to have the compressor replaced and not rebuilt on my first coach because when the reed valves fail they tend to bounce around in the cylinder often scoring and damaging the cylinder walls.

In a perfect world the A/C compressors would just wear out and be easily rebuilt is the only defect is cylinder wear, but unfortunately it is the failure of the valve material and the loose pieces chewing up surfaces that need to be smooth.
