  • Original Entry Door Key for XLII

Posted by John on April 1, 2014 at 6:18 pm

I have owned three XLII conversions over the years. I recently traded for my third, a 2006 Royale XLII built on a 2005 chassis. The entry key for each of my previous two was a nice heavy unique key. It may have been a Corwin? My current bus seems to be missing its original door key. It does have two perfectly functional Schlage key that fit and work fine. But they look like house keys! A machine like a Prevosts needs a key that is up to the standards on the rest of the bus.

Does anyone know if the OEM lock in the entry door is a Corwin or some other brand? Does your key have a name or number on it that could guide me toward an original blank or two?

    Any help will be appreciated!

    John,

I have a 2005 chassis also and my door lock is a Corbin-Russwin and you are correct, the lock and key is substantial.

Is it possible someone replaced the original?

I think most likely the original owner lost the original key(s). Some of the Corwin locks use blanks that are the same as the Schlage SC1 blank.

Jon, does your key have any letters of numbers on it that could help me ID the blank?

I replaced my last to get rid of the old keys. I bought one of the new electronic locks that recognizes my cell phone when I walk up and unlocks. I can assign temporary codes to visitors so it will recognize their phones. It also uses RFid tags for people without smart phones. As a very last resort, it does have old fashioned keys in case of emergency.

Of course, this is for a dead bolt style lock. May be different than what you are talking about.

    Mine is a L4 70 Corbin-Russwin also.

I just ordered extra blanks from Prevost @ $40 each. They had to come out of Canada.

I could not find anyone locally with a blank that matched.

Great info Jerry! Do you happen to have a record of the Prevost part number?

    John,

The Prevost part # 780562 and the cost was $48 each. Got them in today and had them cut at ACE hardware. They work perfect.
