Oregon Love’s
Posted by Archived on July 2, 2015 at 9:22 pmJust an observation to help the next guy with their pay at the pump and discount when traveling the west coast. I pulled into one and was surprised, first, that I had to go into the store to use my card because I don’t have a DOT number. It’s a built in limitation for Love’s in Oregon. Second, I was surprised to find out that diesel was $.30/gallon more because the price on the sign is PUC pricing, which just seems like a deal until you find out it doesn’t apply to you.

Karl, Oregon is like Indiana. Needing a DOT # is a PITA. Another Prevo owner told me that he just makes up a DOT# in Indiana. We never tried it, we just make sure we don’t need fuel in those states. Geo.

The discount cards do not work in Indiana or Oregon because of how the taxes are collected on fuel in those states. Alicia has done everything possible to try to set them up so they function like in the other states but has been unsuccessful.
That was previously discussed on the forum but at the time I don’t think anyone mentioned Geo’s approach. I don’t know if that is legal so if anyone tries that possible solution you are on your own.

It is not our approach, just passing on a tidbit that was passed to us…never tried it. No reason to spend any more time than necessary in Indiana. Oregon is a different story (plenty of reasons to spend time there) just make sure you have plenty of fuel when you get there. Geo.

Indiana and Oregon allow truckers to pay their state fuel
taxes quarterly via IFTA, (International Fuel Tax Agreement), instead of at the
pump. Only commercial vehicles
have to deal IFTA. The goal of IFTA is
to ensure that each state gets their fairshare of fuel taxes for every mile
traveled by a CMV, (Commercial Motor Vehicle).Supplying
a ficticiuos USDOT number to the Indiana or Oregon fueling station allows a
person to illegally avoid the state fuel tax.
This tax evasion is easy to discover but rarely prosecuted due to the
shear number of fuel transactions per quarter.I suspect
that that the “savings” at the pump would quickly evaporate if the state decided to
go after a serial offender. -
Tim,
Top of forum main page. We just changed the buttons that were blue individual buttons in the same spot to a single bright red button.

The posted prices for diesel are extremely misleading in Indiana, as pointed out above. Indiana has lots of things going for it. They really know how to put on a party in Indianapolis over Memorial Day weekend. Check it out.
If you get sucked into buying what appears to be cheap fuel at Love’s in Indiana and are told to “use the RV pumps in front” … be very, very cautious. The path in, concrete curbing, and diesel pump platform have been carefully designed by a machocist to turn under and deface any hanging stainless on a Prevost coach.
Spend your diesel money in another state … like Wisconsin. We’ll use it wisely.

I did get my 10 cents per gallon Loves discount, but was still 30 cents per gallon more than I thought when I pulled in.
I don’t think I would make up a DOT number and then swipe a card tied to my name. My testes aren’t quite that large. I think you’d have to pay cash.
