Bernie, then it’s a good thing that we got our fill of wind, gravel, dust, smoke, mountains, cold nights and colder mornings this past summer. Geo.

    Guys,

When I flush my Black and Grey tank. I let it fill up about 50 -70% and then I let it go.. I flush Black first and then grey.

I set a timer on my phone and haven’t ever over filled it while flushing. The first week we had the family in it and I was still learning I filled it thru normal usage and when it over flowed it went out the vent and all over the side of the coach. The Tecma uses much more water than the toilet we had on our Dutch star and we just weren’t used to it.

I can see where flushing the grey could overflow out the shower drain or sinks but should the toilet be sealed? I don’t want to try it just asking?

I have not done that to mine, Bill, but I was parked next to a fifth wheel where the guy hooked his fresh water hose to the black fill by mistake and left the campground. The toilet may be sealed but water under pressure will find some place to go. It was actually pretty amazing to see all the places inside that the water went. The smell, however, was not amazing.

Davy, that’s one of the reasons I like my single tank… I’ve walked away from filling my fresh tank and the overflow saved me. I dont mind fresh water running down the parking pad. I dont like the idea of sewage inside the coach 🙂

I know with my attention span, I would walk away from back flushing the black tank on at least one of the first two tries. Never mind giving me more then one option to hook fresh water up to!

As an update on the couple across from me. He seems to be doing much better and his new bride is seeing the benefits of central florida over New England (although news reports show it’s rather nice up there right now). I think he’s actually thinking about buying a lot in the resort we are in even after only two days here!

He is a great guy, I respect what he has given to our country as a retired navy veteran and I am even more impressed in the story of how he become a new groom in the late his late70’s! We need more people like him! If my little bit of guidance helped him out, I feel honored to have supported him.

Interesting topic. I dont keep city water open anymore. I now have a healthy fear of going out for the day (work) and having a flooded coach. I was working on the microphor and we thought I had it fixed. Instead I had the pressure relief cycling water. It allowing a continuous flow to the black water tank. Came home 10 hours later and the black water was full (The bus was saying black water tank is full) & the toilet was almost to the rim. Never again! When I leave the city water turns off. You are only a 10cent o-ring away from flooding.

For waste dumping, I leave the grey water tank open until it’s black water dump time. Usually every 4th day. Close the grey, use the showers and sink. We then dump the black followed by the grey. I burp the black with the grey and then clompletely flush. Once a month I hook a separate hose to the black tank rinse connection (we only have that one) and run for 2 or 3 minutes. The rinse system states it should never be run with dump valve closed.

We are full time so we have a regular use of all system. There is no real time for caking in the black.

I never leave the bus without turning off the city water.

    Chip,

You might want to re-think leaving your grey water open, you could end up with a tank full of sewer bugs. Not all the sewer connections have them, but I would guess 50% do. Have you ever opened the campground sewer drain and seen bugs, they’re nasty.

They are so tough they will eat anything you feed them.

    Tom & John

i have seen them. Little knat like bugs. I hate em. Saw them in the hookups at Shaw AFB in July.

We treat the grey when we close the valve to fill the tank. Being full time, closing the grey and opening when full is really not practicle. I did it for awhile. I was dumping every other day. Nothing worse than hearing “Bitchin Betty” (my buses voice warning) saying grey water is full while the wife is in the shower and I’m trying to get dressed at 05:00. Toss is the cold rainy or snowy weather & I got sick of that method.

So far we have done okay. If the bugs show up @ Belvoir, I’ll be outside again doing the every other day dump.

    Chip,

Maybe there’s a problem with Betty, if I recall, your vintage CC had pretty good tank capacities. We have to dump about every 5 days, but the H has great tank capacities, we’ve gone 7 days before while dry camping.

Unless you’re using huge amounts of water, maybe your tank has a sensor problem. I had a 2000 CC and don’t remember any way to calibrate the system and maybe the CC guys will jump in here.

It isn’t real scientific, but if there is a single waste tank it doesn’t matter if it’s gauges function as long as the fresh water gauges work, and you dump the holding tank every time you fill the water tank.

i pretty sure “Betty is accurate”. I’ll regret saying this if Pam reads the forum. Pam takes long showers and uses up a significant amount of H2O.

Since Pam doesn’t read the forum, the solution is obvious. Get her to handle the chores as relates to dumping the tank(s) and filling the fresh water. That usually tends to change people’s habits. (In case you come across this Pam, I was just kidding………..)
