OK…I’m a convert! Centramatics are da bomb!
I have been intending to buy Centramatics for my last two coaches and finally pulled the trigger! WOW! What a difference.
Long story, but I had an inner drive tire with a slow leak. It would loose about 7 pounds per day. I had the wheel broken down and discovered the previous owner had install Equal in all the tires and the material had worked it way between the bead and the wheel, causing a leak. So……Had the tires cleaned out, installed the Centramatics and Wow what a difference.
I’m a convert.

All three Marathons had Centramatics.
I became a fan after discovering my balance weight had come loose and lodged in a foam panel behind the tag.

What is the cost of centramatic balancers ?

They are a hell of a lot more than Equal or similar balancing media.
If my bus did nt come with Centramatics I would still be using Equal.

I’m sure Equal works. Had a bad experience with it clogging up the valve stem and getting between the wheel and tire bead. Very happy with the Centramatics.

The only way to get Equal under the bead is for the tire to be mounted with loose Equal inside it. Most if not all balancing media comes in a sealed plastic bag that is placed inside the tire just prior to inflation and seating the bead. The bag breaks as the bus is driven. There is no way to get media under a seated bead.
Valve stems must have the filtered Schrader valve and as a precaution airing the tire or checking pressure requires an initial blast of air to blow any small bits of media away from the Schrader valve seal.

I suspect all precautions were not followed when the Equal was first installed. Funny, it was only in my drive tires and not the steer or tags. It’s done now. Hopefully I won’t have more issues. I’ve been dealing with a inside drive tire that would lose about 7 pounds a day. Glad to have that resolved…..

~$220/wheel (only one needed for each pair of drive tires). So ~$1300 for all 6.

Last time I bought Equal it was $10 per wheel. So at $80 at every tire change or repair I could replace 16 sets of tires before Equal cost what Centramatics cost.

Jon…I took your advice 8 years ago and I also ended up with a flat tire when the Equal was stuck in one of the valves. The Equal was installed in new Michelins by Marathon in Oregon.
The low pressure tire was very inconvenient and I’m sure it didn’t do any good riding on it until I could fill it up. I now have Centramatics.

Florida Shores Truck Center has them for less than $200 per axle and free shipping. . My total bill for the entire coach was less than $600 for the units. I hear the factory in TX will install for a. very reasonable price. I had mine put on while the wheels were off the coach, so saved install cost there.

I also ordered a set from Florida Shores Truck Center for less than $600 for three axles. Their website lists available product, but the website would not allow me to complete the purchase. I called the parts manager, Brad Brown, and he completed the purchase with excellent customer service. His cell phone number is listed on the website.
I don’t have any tire balancing problems, but I am getting some new drives, and I wanted to have the same gadget on my bus that Jon has on his bus. I think this will give me “street cred” from other bus owners. It also might make Jon envious of me, which would be really cool.

I’m not envious of anyone that does not have polished copper plumbing.
