Oil Line leaking
I have an oil line leaking, it’s the big one that connects to the bottom of the alternator and goes down to the oil pan, I assume it is an oil drain, after the oil has circulated through the alternator.
Fittings seem tight, so, I guess the hose is bad.
Has anyone had this problem, or replaced it?

That line is a drain as you assume. It has been a problem on both my last two coaches.
If it isn’t the alternator end that is leaking, it is the end at the bottom.
Mine is such a small leak it doesn’t drip, but the hose gets wet and then dirty so at each oil change I have been cleaning it. I am close to the point of trying one more time to seal it. I say one more time because I changed alternators on my last coach and took pains to seal the threads at the alternator with teflon tape and the thing still weeped a small amount of oil.

I had to replace mine previously. It was leaking a bit at the bottom. Took it to a local heavy equipment place that manufactured a new one for me. When they disassembled the old one (we thought we’d re-use the fittings) they found the portion of the lower fitting hidden inside the hose actually broken.

I just checked the fitting under the alternator, and the pipe fitting going into the alternator is loose. So I would have to break loose the hose from the fitting to tighten the fitting. Since I’m at a race in Bristol, I think I’ll wrap a rag around it until I get home.
And since its not a pressure line.

First picture the old line.
Second picture a new custom line, (crimped on fittings and hydraulic pressure hose reinforced with stainless braid.
Make it once and forget about it, no clanps no rags no leaks! Tip: zip tie anything in the engine compartment that might move. The fatigue caused by air movement and vibration can lead to leaks and part failure.

The new hose looks great! It looks like other hoses were moved. What really caught my eye though is where’s the engine computer?

Yea, looks good, I’m going to do the same when I get home.
Question, Is the oil level lower than the fitting on the engine? Do I have to drain oil, or can I change the line without draining?

I raised the right side of the coach and lowered the left side when I changed my hose. As I recall, I lost little or no oil.

I believe the top picture he showed is the oil line going from the oil tank down to the oil pan right behind the computer.
The bottom picture is the line going from the oil pan up to the alternator.
2 different lines/locations, that’s why they look like stuff has been moved around.
I was just under mine tonight replacing the hose from alternator to oil pan, and noticed what you were talking about.
By the way, Prevost does not offer a replacement hose. They refer you to Detroit with a part number. When the Detroit part came in, it was no where close. They sent a “tube”, which would not fit the #16 AN fittings. I had to have a hose made locally. Fit perfect after that.
My leak was from the pipe fitting in the bottom of the alternator being loose. I went ahead and replaced all fittings and hose, while I had them apart.

I looked at mine yesterday and came to the same conclusion. I thought he 2 pictures were before and after…my bad.
