Oil change, two leaks fixed, & new USB outlets!
We stopped in Vonore, TN at East Tennessee Luxury Coach on our way to Florida
for an oil change on the DD as well as the generator. That oil change includes
of course a thorough inspection of the underside of the coach and the major
mechanical components by Jeff Rowe . The picture below shows the coaches lined up for their oil changes just before
dawn our first morning.
The Eagle Scouts were in top form as usual finding two air leaks without being asked that I didn’t know existed. They were able to replace the offending devices, plumbing them with compression fittings.
We’ve been frustrated when using the bus that in 1999 when Liberty did the conversion no one (not even Frank Jr or Kurt) could have envisioned that we’d be sitting at the table in the coach trying to power a laptop, a Kindle, and a Version Internet hot spot as well as recharge two smart phones, a digital SLR camera, and our two racing radios we use to communicate with when manuvering in tight spots and checking lights. Not only is there not enough outlets at the table, the location directly under the table and 2″ off the floor is kinda awkward. I thought I had a solution which was a add a hotel style device with three 120 volt outlets and two powered USB ports from Brandstand products:
My plan was to install this either on top of the table next to the wall or under the window sill. I hadn’t quite figured out how to fasten it nor the best way to power it. So I asked Jeff’s opinion. He gave me two or three reason why this wasn’t the best solution and suggested we install two receptacles on top of the “thing” (he had a name for it) that comes out from the wall, wraps down to the floor, and nicely covers whatever is behind (I found out later lots and lots of wires and such). He recommended Leviton receptacles with two 120volt outlets and two powered USB ports, one beside each chair. I said, “SOLD!” and Johnny was quickly able to do it.
Jeff’s solution was better than mine and the execution was superior to what I envisioned (I had visions of cracks Corian from trying to drill holes in to fasten the Cubie and electrical line looking like a hack job). Works perfect for us. No coach should leave ETLC without this upgrade!
One of my next projects is to replace the 120 outlets beside the co-pilot’s chair, on the back side of the two drawer desk between the co-pilot and the recliner, and in the bedroom with these kinds of receptacles (if I can fit them in the existing boxes, which looks like a challenge).
