Odometer Reading Zero`s DDEC IV ECM
Bus starts runs normal. Odometer reading zero`s, ECM fault shows Instrument Controller #1 component failure Inactive Sum 1 and Non specific system Mid (127) not responding.
Prevost Tech says ECM internal battery prob failing.Not exactly sure, but could be something in instrument cluster.
Clarke power says bring bus in for ECM diagnostic. Prob internal bat which can`t be replaced.
Any suggestions or experience ??

Steve, ECU King in Santa Fe, TX, (409/927-1800) will diagnose your ECU for free. You pay shipping each way. If you approve, they will fix ECU for a flat fee. My fix done in one day was $1000 and included fixing the control board and the power board both. So, I ended up with a virtuall new ECU

GoECM does this for $700 and will test it, but if it needs reprogramming it must be on the bus.

Pittsburgh Power can repair/rebuild your ECM too.
They also have remote diagnostics all over the country.

Tks John. PP is @ 2 hrs away. Still have to get ECMprogrammed in place on bus if indeed ECM is faulty. Internal battery is suspect at this point. Clarke power is 30 min away and had them replace tranny and ECM on previous bus. Made appt with them and will report findings.
When ECM went south on my 2008 Suburban it all started with signal light not working, next day fuel pump shutdown, all lights quit working, etc. That`s the problem with on board computers, they eventually go south. Life usually 10-12 yrs. Attention should always be used when jump starting. It can literally kill on board computers from static charges or backward connections.

ECM health update. Clarke Power reprogrammed ECM to Detroit Diesel updates which eliminates use of internal memory battery and connects it to chassis batteries where it should of always been. However , odometer could not be reset by them.
Contacted prevost tech again and it appears the problem is in the instrument cluster and needs reset using Volvo program with pro link. Called several sources in knoxville area and no one has it. Closet place is prevost nashville.
I`ll keep reaching out to places closer. Want make nashville trip anytime soon just for odometer since all other gauges are in operating normal. Positive note is that odometer is accumulating miles as driven which indicates it`s alive.
