Odometer Not working
Today the odometer was flickering and after a couple of miles it went blank. Suggestions as how to troubleshoot this problem.

They do that. I replaced mine a few months ago, found one cheap on eBay.
You have to figure out what the pulses are one way or another, I think my setting was about 36400.

Those speedometers are not very reliable and I ended up replacing both on my XL coaches. Prevost has (had) a kit which made the swap easy. The first had a mechanical odometer and needed a wire change, the second just required the speedo change.

So when replacing does the odometer start at 0 miles on does the current miles come off the ecm?

They start at zero, but if you have some way of sending an electrical pulse and a whole lot of patience you can reset the odometer. I just made a log entry showing miles when replaced.
Being a cynic I am reasonably sure there are XL and H models with that speedometer replacement that are being represented as low mileage coaches. A word to potential buyers……when you get the coach checked out by Detroit Diesel / Allison DDEC retains the real mileage so take advantage of that ability to know the real mileage.

In 6.5 years and 55,000 miles, our 1999 XL45 has done that two or three times. Then suddenly the display starts working again. I don’t think it “lost” any mileage. Be patient.

There really isn’t a pulse number for resetting mileage. The greater the frequency the faster the new odometer will show miles. There is a number that is used to calibrate the new speedometer. That is more trial and error and depends on how precise you need to be.

Two different meanings. There is a value related to how it reads pulses and those pulse values are calibrated to make the speed and odometer readings accurate.
The pulse I am talking about is an electrical pulse applied before or during installation to fool the speedometer and odometer into thinking the bus is in motion so it starts showing accumulated miles on an odometer.
The problem with trying to reset the odometer to read current mileage is whatever input pulses are used they cannot be at a greater frequency than what would be viewed by the speedometer as 85MPH. At that “speed” you would need to spend over 1,000 hours to get the odometer to read 100,000 miles.

The place I got mine from sets the mileage to be correct, you have to fill out some paperwork and a picture of old spedo and some instructions how to set pulse

Where did you purchase yours, Art? I am also needing to replace a Speed Sensor. So I am thinking I might as well get a speedometer at the same time.

It is probable yours will require the wiring update because I think your original speedometer had a mechanical odometer that you could actually hear clicking away as it recorded distance traveled.
