  • Norgren valve needed on back order

Posted by Chuck & Katrina on October 21, 2022 at 6:17 pm

Had leaking air fitting on the 2 way Norgren valve back by the tag axle. After removing the valve to change the air fittings (it sits way up high under the flooring, only way to change fittings is to remove valve) noticed white chalky substance inside (valve currently still works). The valve is on back order with an unknown date of availability. Can I put 3 in 1 machine oil in the valve and reinstall or would that swell the O-rings?

It is currently working and I would like to lubricate it without disassembling it. OR should I just put it back as is?

    Chuck

I use lite application of lithium grease. would use air tool oil as 2nd choice. New valves have a lite grease on rings when delivered. FWIW.. I’m sure you will get lots of opinions. What ever you use do it sparingly Bob

I buy my Norgren parts and pieces from either norgren.com or ebay.

My 2way/3 port complete valves are K910026 or K41EA00KS1KA2 (ebay has em)
Or just the center aluminum body with spool valve = K41EA00
or a rebuild kit = 54237-59 (spool valve, o-rings, lube)
    your results may vary

I recently bought the rebuild kits for 2-way and 3-way. It took a couple weeks to get them for Norgren (I think they were on back order). So far I have rebuilt 1 2-way. I popped the end off, blew air in it, the flushed it with wd40, the blew it with air again, then stuffed a shop towel in all the places I could get it into, the popped in the new valve thingy.

If the valve still works, then you probably have nothing to worry about. Maybe Norgren can let you know what kind of lube that is. If I had to guess, it’s something like lithium grease, but please don’t take my word for it.

My Norgren valve is a K910026 (Prevost # 641274). Have been unsuccessful finding replacement part or rebuild kit, but I have only done searches on internet because unfortunately I didn’t start the project until Friday afternoon. Of course calling any supplier’s is out for until Monday.
I need to get things back together and be operational by Monday. I have air tool oil so I will put a drop of that in the ports and hope for the best.

Someday I will learn not to take things apart on weekends before checking availability of needed parts.

Chuck, Oring grease is best suited for valve spools. You can pick up a 1 oz tube at most all auto parts stores.

Second what Mike said. Also known as faucet grease or plumbers grease.

Didn’t want to disassemble the valve so I added two drops of Air tool oil in the ports, gently induced air into the end control port. Piston moved freely back and forth. This is the Norgren for lifting the tags which only occasionally gets used. Reinstalled it and all is well, think I might forgo ordering another one and leave it as is. It works and it is a pain in the A_ _ to access.

Thanks for all the input. Will store in the old memory bank for future reference.
