  • Noisy Step Cover

Posted by Archived on June 24, 2019 at 10:08 am

I’ve been informed the the step cover rattles when the dog gets off it for his nap on the couch. I told my better half that I could not hear it and he needs to just keep his feet on the step cover.

That apparently is not an option…

I did try to put some felt in the step cover track but that did not solve the problem.

Has anyone had success in keeping the step cover from rattling when closed?

    Thanks,

That’s funny, I have a squeaky noise on the passenger side too.

I just oil it with vodka and an olive.

I do not know why that box below is there.

Personal opinion, YMMV. I’ve had two coaches, one with, one without. I liked having the step until I considered the safety issues.

In the event of an accident or fire, it’s another step I need to go through (possibly in the dark or without air pressure available) in order to exit the coach through the front. I no longer use.

What Joel said is very true, but despite our bus fire and initial failure of the step cover to retract we still drive with it over the steps.

When we had our bus fire in 2004 and I was made aware of it by a trucker it had already done considerable damage to the batteries and their cables in the engine area. I got to the shoulder of the highway, and hit the door lock and step cover buttons and nothing happened. I hit the button again and the lock released and the step cover retracted and at that instance 100% of the coach electrical system failed.

Had they not operated we would have been stuck in the coach working for an alternate way of getting out of it while the fire got bigger.

Despite that experience we still drove our XL with the air lock engaged and the step cover in place. Ditto with our XLII.

Playing the odds. What is the chance that would ever happen again?

Sorry I tried to post a video. Go the YouTube and search for “Entegra Step Fix” from “Great Escape”

Thanks Gerard. I looked at the video and my step cover mechanism is different.

I found that as the cover moves up the ramp to the closed position, one corner did not make tight contact with the end of the ramp.

The first picture shows the “track” and the second close-up picture shows where I added a strip of black rubber to act as a bump stop for the cover track pin. It seems to take care of the looseness and until I can get back out on the road and hit some real bumps, I’m happy with the results.
