  • No voltage to Webasto circulation pump

Posted by Dan on April 6, 2016 at 12:00 pm

This is the first time the Webasto is a no go. Had Jeff (actually Josh) install a new nozzle, then later I cleaned the photo cell, and took the end plate off the circulation motor and cleaned the armature and brushes. So after all that, I checked for 24 volts at the wires to the pump, got 0. Then checked the main and auxiliary fuses for Webasto, all good.

The unit goes through all of its routine start up procedures ok, and makes heat, so we have fuel and ignition, and the cabin fans blow, but pump is not running. After about two minutes it goes through its routine shut down procedures ok.

So need guidance on trouble shooting voltage to the pump.

    Dan,

The power for the Webasto circulation pump is supplied by the Control Unit (Brain Box) mounted on the side of the burner. The “A” plug, the plug having only two wires is the power to the pump. Power is supplied to this plug any time the burner motor is on.

So, turn the burner on and check for voltage on the wires coming from the A-Plug. No voltage, bad box. Voltage present, bad pump or broken wire to the pump.

    Hope this helps you.

Rudy, I just looked at the control unit and do see the two spades for plug “A”, but there is nothing plugged into those spades, and never has been.

Now, there is a two wire plug hanging down on two wires from plug “C” that would fit into socket “A”, but it does not reach, and I did see Jeff plug his test instrument into that hanging connector couple weeks ago. So even though that plug would fit, it does not reach and so never has been attached at position “A”.

I think the reason Dan’s pump is not connected to the control box is because Liberty uses a large pump and they may have it on a dedicated circuit. Dan, if there is a wire number on the wires at the pump you should be able to find the circuit in the electric box. My guess which Jeff or someone more up to speed can verify is that when the Webasto is turned on the A-B relays are energized for the Webasto, heat exchange fans, and the circulating pump, possibly on as many as three dedicated circuits.

Mr. Liberty, Bill Dougherty, told me to change relay number 18, which gets voltage from light 16 on the third output card from the right of the Allen-Bradley. Since I only have about 25 of these spares left, had it swapped in five minutes, and of course the pump runs.

In the past nine years, every time I call Bill with an issue, I have had success. So this is another example. Even when he is not sure, his guess has always been right, at least for me.

Thank you all for your input. Talked to Rudy first time today. Also talked to Tracey at Webasto Michigan first time today.

If you ask webasto in Michigan they will tell you to send it to John Allen if you need repairs he is the best that’s who does most if not all webastos work , I have been to his shop and I can tell you he is the best Period!!!! You can always pull the burner head and send it to him .

EDIT. He is in Sharon Springs , Kansas
