No oil pressure!!!
Hello all. We’re in Nebraska right now and I glanced down at the oil pressure gauge and was near zero and in the red. No faults or engine shut down, Coach seems fine when driving but don’t know if it’s safe to continue. Any thoughts?

Do you have an oil pressure gauge in the engine compartment? If so what does that read?
Do you have a driver information center, and if so can you scroll through it to pull up oil pressure?
Is your oil level at the full mark? Do you have any visible oil leak on the floor under the dash or any where to suggest an oil line to a pressure gauge may have a leak?
Any diesel shop with a reader can (with the correct DDEC software) can plug in and give a digital oil pressure reading. It could be as simple as a bad gauge.
FWIW, low oil pressure is one of the causes of a stop engine light but to get to that point I believe the oil pressure has to be 5 PSI or below. This is not something to ignore. Get a verification of the actual oil pressure ASAP.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. Just got off the phone with Prevost and going to check wiring on oil pressure sensor.
no visible oil anywhere and oil is normal level on the stick. Prevost guy suspects bad sensor which he said I can get fixed if I can find a Detroit service center. -
Was thinking of oil line from engine to gauge, and after posting remembered that vintage had electric signal from sensor.

Hey John,
Went to a Detroit shop and had a tech put a reader on the coach. Checked Oil pressure and all looked good so I guess I have a flakey gauge.
Tried re-seating the oil pressure sensor cable but no change. After speaking to Detroit they said if the sensor was bad it would shut down the engine so I guess further investigation on the guage side is in order.
I thought I was having a bad day till the window blew out behind me. I’ll post about that on the chassis board.

I learned 45 years ago from some pretty savvy airplane mechanics that often the culprit can be a bad ground or a wire that has a failing crimp-on connector or ring-terminal. The bad ground can even be a little corrosion that is difficult to see, especially when a ring-terminal is difficult to get at. I was taught to “touch up” all the surfaces with a piece of emery cloth to make sure everything is shiny for a good connection.
That training long ago has proved invaluable with the race cars and trailers.

You had me at race cars Dick. How is it we didn’t hook up while we were still in Wisconsin? Oh I know CAUSE I DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THIS BITCH!
Well off to try to find a twelve volt power supply for the back up camera that quit working. Yeah…it’s still pouring.
