  • No Hot Water – Marathon

Posted by Jimmy on January 6, 2019 at 10:40 am

    We have no hot water.

Plugged into 50 amp service. 120 and 12v water heaters are both activated with lights on. Checked main fuse boxes in bedroom and electrical bay and all good.

Background. Water heaters were working fine but then water auto fill quit working. Marathon walked me through various scenarios and got auto fill to work. However, in working in the dark, installed new main water filter and didn’t realize there was an O ring at the top of the filter casing that fell off. Of course, as tight as I cranked it, water was still leaking. In the dark I finally found the 0 ring and all was well. However, there was a bunch of water spraying out into the water bay for awhile. I don’t know whether that triggered the hot water shut off or not though sounds logical.

Webasto is not operational…by choice. Tradewinds analyzed and ordered needed parts a few weeks ago. Since I don’t think we’ll need the heater in South Florida right now, they will install new Webasto parts on next trip north.

Any ideas or other fuse sources I should look at? The lady doesn’t like taking cold showers. Thank you.

Make sure the outside shower valves are off, if head is off and valves are on you will get very little hot water, the cold mixes with hot .

I had a situation with 110v water heater, not heating . After found a loose connection on the circuit breaker, after removing the breaker cover panel. I had 12v heat and could hear the breaker “thump” when I hit the 110v button. but had no voltage in the outlet in the bay .

    Jimmy,

Do you hear the array controller click when you push the 120 water heater button?

Where the water heater element is located (and you must be close based upon that picture) is a thermostat and a high temp. limit switch (resettable). Mine has died several times (the last board lasted 2 days).

You can check the little sensors for continuity and if there is none you need to replace it. My thermostat is the one that keeps dying. The replacement boards are cheap.

BV Bernie called me immediately (4 times) after this post yesterday and walked me through a bunch of tests. Nothing was working. And Bernie was talking to Chris Welch who was at the airport. I needed a multi meter which I bought after the last Maintenance Seminar but was still in the box… it scared me…klutz and mechanical dummy that I am. Thank you for your patience Bernie.

In the meantime, Dan from Oklahoma also was texting me and we got on the phone. Same thing, I needed a voltage meter.

So I learned how to use it to measure voltage. Terry from Marathon called me today and walked me through a bunch of voltage tests. Bad thermostat. It’s being overnighted.

Now I have to find someone to install it which won’t be a problem here at Aztec.

Owning a Prevost will either make you a mechanic or make you much poorer!

True on both accounts, however it is impossible to put a value on the experiences, friends we have gained over the year and the miles of smiles.

I’ll second that Jon. Mechanical devices scare me…truly. I’d rather hire someone to take care of my coach so i know it’s done right.

To a great degree this forum and the maintenance seminars have forced me to explore and conquer…to a small degree. And it is quite satisfying learning new skills and how to avoid being sprayed with water when unplugging a water line. I’m still have a bit of trouble with the slides…seems my head gets in the way occasionally.

    Thank you all.

I think my comment may have not been interrupted correctly. I love my Prevost and I will never own anything else. However, I am not rich and I can’t afford to let a paid mechanic address every single issue this coach has had. It’s become a challenge to see how much I can do, how much I can try to do and how much I have to turn over to someone else.

You Tube has become my very best friend. It has almost come to the point where I believe that if you can’t find a fix on You Tube, you can’t fix it!

Just be careful Bill. Nothing about our coaches is necessarily magic, but there are some opinions about how things should be that are not true.

Be especially careful to accept as gospel advice about the suspension system
