I installed a Samsung UN22D5003, 22″. It is a perfect fit width wise. It is slightly tilted down for best in bed viewing. I moved the shelf the TV did sit on up to near the bottom of the new TV. I then have the Plexi door shortened to expose the TV and just hide the components. I removed the coax selection switch and installed a whole house amp. I also installed a DVD player. I’m very pleased with results.

I like the setup. How are you keeping the tv mounted to the cabinet ? My current zenith 20 inch is held in place by a screwed in frame. I really don’t want to go into a mounting issue on top of the spaghetti wiring problem I see behind the box.

All I have is a giant hole where the tv sits. I’ll look into moving components and I need to disconnect the current trac star & chase the coaxial wires so I can hook up a Swim to the correct line feeding from the plumbing bay. There has been some activity behind the box & I need to isolate and remove unneeded wires, cables.

In order to not make things complicated I was hoping to find a same sized HDMi tv replacement. The Salon TV is primary and I can live with a smaller one in the BR.

I used a drop down TV mounted it unside down on the relocated (raised) shelf. I used 2 rubber cushions under both sides of the bottom of the TV to maintain the tilt.

I used a home TV amp in place of the coax selector switch. I have an A/B switch to select between antenna and cable as one input to thge amp. The other input to the amp is from the non functional Sat TV. The amp has 4 outputs and I only need 3.

I gave up on the over the drtiver TV. Instead, I have a 42″ TV mounted on the shelf on the passenger side directly across from the couch. When (if) I get around to rebuilding the console above the windshield then the TV will go back up front.

I love my 28″ Vizios I just installed. Fit perfectly where the boxy old 19″ came from. Since 28″ is a diagonal measure, the TV is actually bout 26″ wide. Measure the width you have to play with and then see what will fit. It sure makes a big difference!

update

we went with the 22 inch samsung. Width wise it was a perfect fit. I cut some 1by 1 shims to add support . Fits nice and snug. To compensate for the sound, we bought bose dest top computer speakers. They tie into the samsung via the headphone jack on the back. Sound is top notch. I mounted the speakers on their sides below the tv. The speakers line up with the notches in the lexan cover. The shims lift the tv about 2 inches above the speakers.

I’m running a portable dish as my tracstar lnb does not support the hd signals. All in all I am very pleased. We got the HDTV working with both TVs. The rear tv looks and performs great. The only down side is that I have nice sat on my roof that I’m not using.

That begs the question: has anyone converted a trac stars lnb to a hd capable lnb? I have a spare direct tv lnb. If there was a way to mount it on the sat arm I’d be in business. It hooks to a rg6 cable than runs to a swm power box.

when this refers to TV screen size, then it is probably true. I was able to go from 42 to 48 inches upfront and 22 to 32 inches in the back of the bus. No surgeries required. Both TV fit the existing openings.

However, the question is about converting an existing SD satellite to HD. Unless, the manufacturer offers an authorized upgrade path, I would not bother trying. The cost and time spent on trying the conversion is not worth it. Especially, since it is not just the LNB that would have to be changed, the control box would very likely need to be replaced, too.

I do still have a R6 dome on the roof which would work in conjunction with DirecTV. Never used it because it is not HD and I do not like the DirecTV subscription terms.

Instead, I added a Winegard Traveler SK 1000 with Dish HD service on a month to month RV service plan. Works super great. I said this before and will repeat myself. Once you watch in HD, you do not want anything else.

The Traveler cost me about $1150 and an additional $99 for the VIP211z control box. I had accumulated enough Amazon points, so that it was “free”. Installation is easy. You may have to run a new coax cable from the dish to the control box and a power cable from the dish to the Traveler power supply.

I would bet any attempt at upgrading older equipment would costs many hundreds of Dollars. That money is better spent buying a new dish with up-to-date technology.

Wondering what anyone has done “lately” to upgrade from older Direct tv receiver(s) to new style. I see in the older posts the old Switcher was replaced.

Currently have old( maybe original 2000) receiver and KVH dome.

I know the KVH will not get direct HD, just wondering if the coach wiring will support the “New style HD receiver and “mini” for the second tv?

Had Winegard HD Sat. on my recently sold Monaco, and planned on keeping the receivers.

will get around to replacing the TV’s/

Unfortunately, you cannot make ANY dome style antenna recieve the DirecTV HD signals. The 2 LNB’s are not compatible or changeable. If you want DirecTV HD then you will need a Trav’ler or RF Mogul unit.

You could change service to DISH and use your dome with DISH HD.
