New To Towing
We are newbies to the world of motor homes and would like to purchase a tow vehicle and begin taking a few trips. With that in mind, a friend of mine that has years of experience has recommended buying a Blue Ox tow bar and a Patriot braking system. We are entertaining the idea of buying a new Jeep Rubicon to tow behind our coach. Open to any thoughts or comments on this particular set up…any takers? Thanks

We have towed with Blue Ox Aventa II towbars for 15 years, ( of which we own 3 Aventa II’s, long story) We have had great success with their tow bars, and them as a company. Many of us use MG Braking system if your vehicle of choice has room under the hood. Currently, we use a Brake Buddy, (also a long story).

Probably the two most popular brands are Blue Ox or Roadmaster. They are likely to be equally good so you probably won’t go wrong with either.
Here is some free advice. No matter what brand you buy, or what type (car mounted or bus mounted) make certain the tow bar will release when under pressure. You do not always stop on level ground with the toad aligned perfectly with the coach. And when you don’t some tow bars don’t release easily and you find yourself doing all sorts of gyrations trying to release them so you can unhook the toad from the bus.
Read the tow bar descriptions carefully to make sure they have the easy release feature. My first tow bars did not have that feature (hadn’t been invented back then) and I worked up a sweat many times trying to release the locking pins so I could unhook the toad.

I like you, new to the rv / toad business and reviewed a number of recommendations before buying. Ultimately selected a 10,000 # Aventa 7445 / Blue Ox and have it set up to tow both a Grand Cherokee and 2 door Wrangler. Went with Air Force One brake set up on the cherokee and H & G on the older Wranger. Both have worked great thus far…
