FWIW –I have witnessed first hand the tires on our buses will slip on the wheel in a hard braking situation. To balance the tires with wheel weights is a waste.

I have centramatics, and will use equal in addition when I can find it for less than 50 bucks a bag.

Bill, forgot to answer about knowing you have Equal. You could pull the valve stem cores, but that will only reveal if the cores have the filter or not. The only way to know is to open the tire and wheel up.

Roger, I’ll sell you my $10 bags of equal for $30. That’s less than the $50 price they charge in Bristol.

You can have irregular tire wear even if they are balanced with balance masters or equal if its out of alignment put some miles on the tires 40 or 50 thousand maybe only 25 thousand and it will show up a tire with no river wear bar will show it sooner than a tire with it if you put miles on and you put new tires on with out alignment you will see irregular tire wear even with tires that have equal or balance masters on them for what it’s worth

Tom and I spent some time together in Nashville Monday evening and yesterday. I actually had my flip phone with the roatary dial with me and IT WAS TURNED ON. That amazed Tom. He of course had is latest and greatest technologically advanced cell phone and to show off he decided to track a check he had sent.

I admit to knowing little about the technical side of things but I do know when a log-in on a web site has failed. For about 15 minutes while waiting for a table I watch Tom enter his user name and passowrd. I now have them memorized I saw him enter them so often. Of course they did not work. So after we were seated at the restaurant Tom continued to work his smart phone. After another 15 minutes he turned the phone over to me so I could see he got access to the status of the check. I don’t know this for sure, but I think he was so excited he was able to use a phone to go on the internet that he peed his pants.

No wonder he makes fun of my flip phone. Unlike all the other phones people now use, mine appears to be the only one that cannot be called an adult toy.

    Gary,

You can add your cell phone to the do not call registry, https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx

Since you live on a Hill in Tennessee above the river, your equal is probably Bootleg Equal. Can only pay 5 bucks a bag. With no tax.

For that price I would probably be selling you sand.

    What
really happened was Jon said he didn’t get a check I sent him for bus
parts, so while standing in the lobby of the restaurant I pulled up
my account to check on the transaction and immediatlley had the
status. Jon was so overwhelmed at the high tech display of data that
he mumbled something about needing a Droid. Now his story has
changed, but he can’t remember the original, so go easy on him.

    Fred,

I believe there are two recommended amounts based on wheel position, 10 oz. and 12 oz. I am going by memory and cannot remember where I looked up those amounts. Maybe a Google search on Equal will show a chart. The balancing media comes in a bag so there is no measuring,.

I looked this up http://www.alltiresupply.com/bchart.html and this shows what I remembered.

    David,

I took a quick look at a number of charts and they show a different (lighter) weight of balancing media for a single tire than is shown for duals. So I am guessing only one of the drive tires per side gets the media, but the weight of the media will be greater than that used for the steer and tag.

    Remember, that is a guess.

Went to tire shop today to check and rebalance the front tires, Michelins 365s. On our last trip I noticed a little wiggle and even a little more in the driver side mirror.

After taking the tire off the bus problem was easily noticed….Balance weights ….Gone.

The bus log shows when the new tires were installed about 22,000 miles ago 5 1/2 ounces of weights were glued to the inside rim. Care was taken with weights first installed by sanding and cleaning before the weight was set on rim.

With this finding out came a box containing a pair of Centramatic balancers. I had purchased the Centramatiic set just in case re-balance didn’t work out. It was sort of plan “B” putting on the Centramatics.

With finding the weights gone adding the auto balancers made a better choice.

Passenger side weights were all in place as installed. These weights were removed and balancer installed.

On the trip home the difference is pretty amazing. Smooth, no shake, rock solid. http://www.centramatics.com

Open the web site, on the left column is there product video demo.
