New Steer Tires
I had replaced my steer tires before heading to Phoenix three weeks ago. I had purchaced these Continental HSU2+ in the 315 80R 22.5 size. They were $730 each give or take. They gave me $40 each for my 03 Michelin XZA’s.
So far after 2500 miles I really like them. There is just a little more noise on a really smooth highway but not much. They have a tread depth of 26/32nds

Probably be quieter if your steer axle wheel housings had insulation (or did you replace it?)

Jon, I had taken the yellow with a little black paint insulation out a few years back and put black mud flaps in place of it, it seem to be doing a good job with sound and it looks a lot better.
I’m waiting for 6 Double coin tires to come over from China in a shipping container so I can try them on my drivers and tag, thanks to a recommendation from Roger and you. 🙂 $220/tire cheaper then the continental.

I’m curious why the move from Michelin,especially given the price premium you paid for the Continentals. I just replaced some of my tires with XA2+ Michelens. If I recall correctly the FMCA price was $565 plus taxes and installation.

I would buy Double Coin again. I recently sold my 97, but they have done very well. I lost one a while back because I hit something that took a baseball sized chunk out of the tread and damaged the belts, but the others wore well and rode well. Michelin owns or controls Double Coin.

When it came time to purchace new steers, I first thought Michelin. I called three tire dealers that I use and heard prices from 870 to 1000 dollars each. One had said Continental was USA made and a great tire, so thought I would try them. If you notice the load rating of the tire I went is 10,000# and has a speed rating of 68 mph. It’s made for heavy use. After putting them in use, it really felt good having them under where Jan and I sit. Keep in mind I might have a different story in 50,000 miles.
On the FMCA pricing, I’m not a member and If I were, I would have looked into it.

Congrads on selling your coach as soon as you did. Compared to others still hanging on their coaches. Than again you had a very well maintained coach and in my opinion is a big plus. Rick

Rumor has it that the first person looking at Jon’s bus brought it.
Congradulations to Jon, this has a lot to say about bus care and record keeping. Jon keeps suggesting to us.
I’am sure the new owner will have many trouble free miles thanks to all the new parts in the bus.

While I wait for my brake chambers and tires to come in, I thought it would be a great time to clean and polish the wheels. Not a geat time, meaning fun, but a great time while the tires are off. I start with an acid wash and then use a polish, (Diamond Brite, thanks Roger), I like Blue Magic also. I use my big angle grinder with polishing wheels when needed.
