  • – New RUN CAPACITOR for “new” CruisAir Compressors

    For those DIY installing or having the smaller, Tecumseh compressor (12K BTU) model AXA5512EXE compressor in your CruisAir condenser, be sure to use Tecumseh RUN Capacitor TCK150-07 pictured, per Tecumseh Tech Support. It is a 25 microfarad. I believe the old was 40.
    I cannot recall who with 100% certainty, yet recall reading someone say the new compressors only last 2 or so years… Re-use of the old, larger Tecumseh compressor’s larger run capacitor can do it.

    Excellent information. I had just installed a new 35MFD. I’ll have to pull it back out and install a 25MFD.

    The 25 should come in with the new Comp kit, what does it do if using the 40?

    Good Morning DT – just an fyi, no capacitor was included with the purchase of the compressor. And what happens if use wrong size run capacitor – it can cause premature failure (per google)

    This is the one I ended up putting in. Tecumseh makes good stuff, but I wasn’t able to get it quickly. I was able to get the one below from Amazon in a day. I’ve seen many HVAC pros use Amrad products.

    local supply house carried a mars part 12240 motor run capacitor.

    larger capacitor addes to much juice to the system and will cause premature failure

    Unfortunately, ever since they took out all the good nasty pcb laden oils, capacitors shrunk in physical size and the lifespan plummeted. The more oil in it, the better it could dissipate heat. Normally, your motor/compressor should have a tag on it listing the specs for the required capacitor, and certainly, if not ON the compressor, on the box, or, worst case scenario, Google can come in to play. You need to be within 10% of the rated capacitor, higher or lower, but within 10%, and you can substitute a 25/440 for a 25/370, but never ever go the other direction, using a 370 when it calls for a 440. Also, capacitors CAN get weak and even though may appear to test good, if the motor runs hot and draws excess amps, the FIRST thing to try is to replace the capacitor with a fresh one.
