New Refrigerator
HI
We are needing to replace the refrigerator in our 1990 Marthon. Having issues finding a refrigerator that can fit the hole without coming too far into the kitchen. Was wondering what others might have done and/or what models you have used. We currently have the Amana 19.
Hole dimensions are: Depth 28 1/2 inches from back to front of current fridge, Width 32 inches, and Height is 67 3/4. See picture below:
Can’t open to the left as that is where the shower is in the bathroom. Please offer any suggestions. Most refrigerators that we found come into the living area about another 3 inches.

Look for counter depth units. They cost more to be less deep.

We installed a Samsung 17.5 CF refrigerator in our 95 Affinity. HxWxD is 70.87×32.2×28.15. If you can expand the height of the opening by 4 more inches, it should slide right in. Stock number is RF18HFEANBSR, and runs $1245 at Home Depot.

I used Truk’s lucky find when he located Sears Kenmore # 51789. Exchange fit right in with zero alterations to bus.
I just checked Sears on line and it’s still offered. Specs are on Sears web-site.
FWIW….Anyone with an ” H” with refrig issues should seriously buy this refrig before they go out of stock. An extremely simple change using this model. I had the refrig shipped to Marathon Dallas about a week ahead of time. Techs plug it in for 4 days ahead. We were pretty sure it was working correctly before install.

I discovered while searching for my replacement the Sears website allows you to search by dimensions. If the depth of the space is 281/2 the door will extend past the opening so counter depth should work. The Sears site gives you dimensions and details such as when the measurements exclude the handle. The site also allows you to do a compare and includes just about every brand. Good hunting. -
When our 15/16 year old Amanda quit on us last summer we replaced it with the Sears Kenmore # 51789 too. Fit was tight, but it worked. Found it on sale when we were looking. Please note that it doesn’t appear to come with all the inserts on the door to put stuff into. Probably going to have to buy those separately.

Truk told me they short a couple of shelves on freezer side. I waited to see if it was noticed and sure enough it was.
Ordered 2 on line at $60 each… which match what came with refrig. Plastic cap on inner glass ledge falls into a ridge holding shelf in place.

Emailed Leon at Marathon. They came up with this model: Fisher & Paykel RF170ADUSX4. It will fit into the current hole with no modifications. Now just hope the windshield doesn’t shatter when they remove it.

I’m not much of a refrigerator guy. I know toolboxes. This thread prompted me to take Cathie out of the coach, check out the Kenmore #51789 refrigerator we put in last summer. By the time we were done we came to the conclusion we needed three shelves for the freezer, three door bins for the fridge, and a shallow (meat) drawer for the fridge. I think the total through the Sears web site came to OVER $550. No way Jose’! We paid something like $1,200 (on sale) for the entire refrigerator.
It never occured to us to ask the salesperson at Sears whether the refrigerator came fully configured not.
So we reevaluated everything, reduced the order, and ended up spending $257 which included a 10% discount I wrangled over the guy from Sears who chatted with me on line. Fair Warning: The functionality of the Sears parts website absoluately SUCKS!
So … anyone buying the Kenmore #51789 refrigerator for their coach needs to keep in mind it doesn’t come with all the shelves, bins, and drawers. Try to work that stuff into your deal.

It’s no surprise then Dick, buying a refrig is like shopping for a car. You know, power windows, power seats, floor mates all upgrades and all extras. Maybe that’s where the refrig guys learned to price on the low side.
You have to admit it’s a pretty slick idea and you never know about “oh you want shelves for all those runners” , until you own it.
