New Member Intro
Greetings,
Not knowing where to start on this forum landed here. I would like to introduce myself, while my User name is G2Silver, my given name is Gary. Located in Eugene, Oregon. RV and bus country, with Marathon a stone’s throw away.
After owning older coaches (including an MCI with dual slides) for nearly 2 decades, purchased our first Prevost, a LeMirage XL. It’s a ’88 Liberty/Hawkings, built on a late 86 production chassis. Despite being well aged, has only accumulated barely 150K miles. It sports the 8V-92 Silver series upgraded engine. First drives with a heavy foot and considerable city driving returned 7.5 MPG. I was nearly thrilled, expecting 4.5-6.5 from others’ recounts. This is the first coach where power does not seem to be an issue. At all! A nice change from prior coaches that wimpered on any grade, but always made it. The “widebody” (102″) is noticeably roomier than the old 96″ coaches. And a little tigher fit on the roads. We like to get off the highways and enjoy the wilderness. Thankfully the coach turns very well, with a natural feel, that surprised me even in tight quarters. Can’t wait to see how see does in the mountains.
We don’t have a name as of yet. So far, it’s being called Super Pinky. Partly due to the eye popping color (it’s growing on us),but more because a clothing designer friend of ours has a Pink AirStream, she calls Pinky. The trailer was a ground up resto-mod creatation of mine brought to life by her drawings and company/board members.
As a full time auto technician, auto shop owner, ASE Master Technician, AS Auto Technology, Amsoil T-1 Certified, ex-bicycle engineer & racer, 29yrs pro mech/tech, a general “gear head”, thoroughly enjoy the challenges and rewards of coach ownership. Sharing information and helping others, when I can, is also rewarding.
That for awhile will be very limited when it comes to Prevost. General observations are the coach is amazingly well built, finally usurping my #1 best built coach owned so far, GM (sealed aviation grade electrical connectors and all). Overall the Prevost is in another league, and far more modern. The frame structures are the most robust I’ve seen, clearly overbuilt in some areas. The safety and convenience systems are well laid and out and thoughtful. Wiring is very well laid out and labelled. Factory support is an added bonus, even for this classic. When sellers or people boast how great a Prevost is, that’s one bragging right that seems to ring true. One could say it’s self evident.
Looking forward to connecting with people here.
All the best,
Gary
