New Jersey to Florida overnight stop
Hello all,
Trying to get out of Nj and head to Fl this weekend. With the mess here, you would understand why. Going to try to do it in three days. The last stop before Florida will be somewhere at Hilton Head or so. I have stayed at the former ORA there in the past Great, but a little tight. I will do that again, unless someone has a better idea in the general area. Now the question: Where to overnight somewhere in VA somewhere near or south of Richmond of of I-95? Does anyone have a suggestion for an easy in easy out? I don’t care about the view, because I won’t see it. Thanks for your help in advance.

There is also a KOA at exit 53 in Walterboro that is reported to have very large pull thrus it is right off the exit. Not quiet as far south but you don’t have that long drive into HH from 95, hope this helps, Bill

The I-95 exit 53 campground is called ‘Green Acres’, all sites are wide, pull thru with 50A service, but its not paved (or level) with lots of trees.so get there in daylite. It’s cheap – I recall around $30 for full bookups , but no security, and there’s a run down trailer park right next door. Use your own discretion.

We are still staying in small- town WalMarts because of space and cost considerations. We usually get whatever supplies we need and roll out in the morning. So far, so good. Paul.

With today’s political climate that seems to pit everyone against the 1%, an over night stop in a public accessible area such as a Wal-mart is less attractive with each passing day.
I would have to spend a lot of nights in a Wal-mart or Cracker Barrel to make up for the cost of someone keying my coach or toad just because they don’t like us, because we are “rich”. Even the crappiest campground is a safer place than being both highly visible and accessible to the folks who are convinced we made our money to buy our coach by “screwing the little guy”. If you don’t believe that listen to folks talking about you on the CB.

There is a nice KOA in Wade NC. Wade is 14 miles north of Fayetteville, NC and that puts it about mid point between New Jersey and the middle of Florida. Tom was the campground manager while I was there. If you decide to stop and overnight tell him I said Hello. However, that won’t get you a discount.
If I recall the exit number is 61. Easy off, left turn and the KOA is within 1/2 mile of the exit. Easy back on the next morning too.

In nearly 12 years of RVing we have spent many over nights in Wal Mart lots. Explained to Mary Ellen that with the purchase of the bus we have now moved up to WalMart super centers.only. If you arrive early by morning there will be others parked around you, never fails. Point is safety in numbers.
In thinking back we have parked overnight in lots of places. We have never had any problems what so ever. Maybe some credit should be given to Maddie the wonder dog who has sounded the alarm when anything comes near the bus during the night. Maddie earns her keep when we travel.
Most WalMarts have cameras all over there property so I find some comfort in knowing that.
I have to agree with Jon,( did I just say that) about the CB talk and have heard some really nasty remarks about Rv’ers and even other truckers.

Every Walmart we have ever stayed in has a security cameras & a guy running around in a golf cart & a little friendly conversation & a nice tip helps to keep you safe…I always ask is this where you would like me to park? I have seen them sit & park right by us between their rounds…They act like they’re proud to do it !!

I agree with Will that the Wade KOA is nice and close to I-95.
