New Guy checking in
Hello to All! Dave and Linda checking in from Warren MA/Cuttyhunk MA. We purchased our `1997 Vision XL40 in 2002 and have accumulated about 290K miles since then. The majority of our travel has been for business following many of the Collector Car Auctions around the country…we do the shipping of the cars being bought and sold.
Prior to buying the bus we traveled by commerical airline, stayed in Marriotts and drove those nasty rental cars…don’t miss any of that at all!
Other than a recent radiator replacment and routine maintenance we really haven’t had any issues. A couple sets of Michelins too! Averaging close to 9 MPG!

I’m sure by now you realize we all will answer every question you have. Occasionally you may actually get a correct answer.
A lot of collector cars are owned by our members.

Welcome to PC…. The best Prevost site on the planet. Now we want you to get off to a good start but 9 mpg is not going to get you many friends. You have a couple of options.
A) increase your highway speed above 39 mph
B) carry more stuff in the bus, like cases of beer, cases of wine,
C) Drop tire pressure below 150 lbs.
D) Maybe there is some confusion with generator fuel consumption ?
All in fun Sir, sure would like that 9 number from our bus.

The 9 MPG is the real deal. But the bus doesn’t have the extra weight of slides, I use all synthetic oils, keep the tire pressures up, air filter clean and changed regularly. I don’t tow either. It’ll actually do better than 9 coming east bound from the coast with the occasional tail wind.

The coach also is not strangled with emissions components that somehow cause increased fuel burn to make cleaner air. (I will never figure that one out).
It is in the 41,000 pound range, so unlike a non slide 45 footer which checks in at about 46,000 pounds or a 2 slide 45 footer that pushes 53,000 pounds the engine is not working as hard at highway speeds.
I suspect that David and Linda are not pushing the coach down the road at high speeds either.
If we do the math and see 9 MPG for 41,000 pounds it is consistent with 53,000 at 6.9 MPG with that mileage reduced by the fact the later model year engine is 14 liter compared to 12.7 (and will burn more fuel) and the emissions equipment which is likely to cost almost .5 MPG.
I’ll bet the F1 race will be a fun place to be. Austin is a great city.

You’re correct Jon, Our Series 60 was towards the tail end of the clean burning 12.7 470’s that DDA built before the Tier 2? emissions standards came out…As for cruise speed we’re usually in the Hammer Lane 70+ but let the Turbo do the work and drive like there’s an egg under the gas pedal.
