New gen battery
ok, I have searched the generator forum and not seen specifics. I have replaced many batteries but not one in the bus. Are there any special precautions that should be taken to replace the generator battery? Is there a battery shutoff switch or anything other than the normal precautions one takes when replacing a battery. 05 Marathon XL, Kohler 20hp. Thanks

Jacky, I don’t know how Marathon set your battery up, but I just replaced mine and I did not do anything more than take off the cables, pull the old one, put in the new one and hook the cable back up.
In fact I also replaced the chassis batteries and did not even turn off the master switch. In both cases no one was injured and both the bus and generator started up when I wanted them.
When I changed my house batteries that was a whole different story. I went into a full shut down of all house master switches because I have specific shut down procedures I have to follow.

Pretty easy to do, you likely have a group 24 start battery, turn off the auto-start and the cut-off switch to the generator and you should be good to go. Don’t know where your switch is on the XLII, my H is in the gen bay.

Small plug for Truk. My gen battery is somewhat hard to reach and was in a battery box so it was not visible without crawling in the bay along the generator. When I replaced it last year It turned out to be a 7 year old Lifeline. Lifeline is definitely the way to go. -
My gen batt is behind my house batts, behind my passenger fender. Easy to take off the fender but a pain to have to take off one or two house batts to get to the gen batt.

Thanks for the replies. My gen battery is located in the first driver side bay opposite the generator in the first curb side bay. In an enclosed box at back of bay. Not easy to get to but doable. Since we store the coach in a warehouse I always turn the battery switch and gen start switch off when inside.

That’s a tough spot Tim, mine is easily accessible behind a panel curb side 1st bay.

My generator battery is also in the first curbside bay. I had to take the receptacle for the ZipDee chairs out, and wiggle over there. I wouldn’t call it easy, but outside of the posts reversed from the original battery requiring some maneuvering, it wasn’t too bad. It had an Odyssey battery, so I replaced it with the same. Like Jon said, no big deal disconnecting and connecting the posts–I had done it serveral times on our previous coach for both the chassis and house batteries. But the battery setup was a lot simpler than on our Marathon!

Simple is good, but if you ever have a malfunct (that’s a technical term) associated with dead house batteries having a live generator battery is a good thing.

I have an 03 Xlii probably just like yours. I just replaced the battery – all I did was unhook the old and hook up the new. It was pretty easy. Hardest part was lugging the batteries in and out.
Driver side first bay, rear left corner. Behind a box like cover. Came off with about 10 screws. I bought the battery through Tom. It showed up in the mail!
