Here’s free advice. The selection of a driver is going to be critical because you not only want someone qualified to drive, you want that individual to know and understand your coach conversion. You need assurance he will do an extensive pre-trip inspection of both the coach and conversion because once on the road your exposure to unplanned repair costs can get deep into your wallet.

I would also expect the driver to protect the coach and not use it for a party for a hundred of his closest pot smoking friends.

Personally I would fly to AZ and either drive it home myself with the driver as a teacher or as someone you personally supervise. You need the experience, the training, and the opportunity to get to know the coach which will answer almost all the questions you have asked.

DO NOT ASSUME AN RV DRIVER UNDERSTANDS A PREVOST CONVERSION. An RV compared to a Prevost conversion is like comparing a pickup truck to a Mack truck.

You need someone who not only knows the Prevost chassis, but also knows your specific converter. Look how many questions are on this forum from owners who do not know what the dash lights mean, how to operate the house systems like heat and A/C or even how to operate the slides, both normally and manually.

This goes back a few years Jacksonville had a show and driver quote parked bus BUT never set parking brake you quessed it rolled into loading dock. Just because you can make it go forward doesn’t make you a driver.

Your hiring a driver to pilot your new bus ? Where on earth do you expect to find a reliable / experienced driver to handle a 50,000 lb Prevost with a commericial D/L, and a good driving record ?

May I suggest calling some of the conversion coach companies and ask them if they have recommendations? I have personally talked with a retired FL state trooper who has been transporting coaches for Liberty Coach, for the last 9 years… I helped him when he had a tire issue along the way of a transport from FL to MN… you can find him through Liberty Coach; alternatively, I can reach out to him directly and ask if he’s interested.

Pat has offered some good advice above.

My concerns apart from having a qualified driver who knows both the chassis and conversion, it is important that regulations are followed.

For example, if the driver is compensated he must have a CDL, Class B. Even if he is not compensated the laws relating to the state the coach is registered in have to be followed. In other words if it is registered and licensed in TX, a Class B CDL is required. It is is registered in TN only a regular driver license is required.

All of this is unimportant as long as the trip is uneventful. But if the driver is in an accident, especially a personal injury accident then it is likely the police will be all over the coach, driver etc. verifying compliance with the laws.

This statement is not true.

If you are legal in the state where your driver’s license is issued you are good to drive anything your license allows in your state, regardless of where it is registered.

The CDL requirement is a sticky issue, it may or may not require a CDL, depending on the job description. If the vehicle is paid for movement, ie commercial trucking, a CDL is required. If driving is a part of your job, not the only thing you do a CDL may not be required. Example, you are your employers assistant and one of your many duties is driving, a CDL is not required. It is not cut and dried.
