Need Generator Help
Guys,
Getting ready to leave for Colorado on Tuesday. Just had the generator service and was packing and pre tripping today and came back to the coach to see a big puddle of diesel on the driveway and the generator off. The housing or bracket where the 5/16″ hose enters the housing is broke and fuel is everywhere. I called the local Napa and they don’t have the part. Bus guys that work on my coach might have something off one of their buses they can use or he is going to try to get a 5/16 in line filter. But as I looked at it further it appears to have 3 or 4 hoses going in and out. one comes from the fuel pump to the side of the hosing that is the one that is broke… then out the other side to the generator… then on top and kinda of hidden there is what I would describe as a T where 5/16 hose goes in and out so if you count both of those 4.
I will try to post a picture. Anyone have an idea where I can find such a bracket first thing on monday?
not crazy about the option, but we can’t get this going, might need to just keep the DD running to keep everything working when we overnight in KS.

Bill, I cannot picture what broke, but is it possible to weld?

Also, is it possible to make all the hose connections by using brass fittings? A photo or type of generator may help. Trying to picture the problem.

John, I just emailed you three pics. Geny is a Kohler. Not sure about welding as an option….
What do you think about in line filters until I can get the correct parts from Kohler?
as best I can tell there are four 5/16 hoses that go in/out.
1) is from the fuel pump to the left side of the filter housing or bracket (this one is the one that is broke)
2) pretty much accross from this one goes out and is in braded covering to side of geny block i think
3) comes from the bundle which travels with geny slide to a “T” fitting on the top of the filter housing
4) other side of the “t” fitting that then goes into the geny block
As you know… I know almost nothing… just trying to figure out if I can get this thing going so I don’t have to cancel ski trip
I just confirmed that with the DD running webasto and will work without geny running so we might roll the dice and go even if we can’t get this fixed on monday.

If you have a cast alum kubuta style filter housing I had the same thing happen to mine. I tapped it with an 1/8″ pipe tap and threaded in a 90 degree 1/8″ mpt × 3/16 hose barb fitting. Was easy and worked great. It was the same situation.. 4 hoses going to it.

Bill, I presume you got my email.
I agree if the base of the filter can be retapped that is by far the best solution. If that is not possible or if it is easier as a temporary fix just to get you going do as I suggested and jury rig brass fittings to by-pass the filter and filter base, and use an in-line filter until you return from the trip.

Thanks to everyone who replied or called. Just back from the shop. All good. Jeff they did exactly what you suggested. Not sure why they wouldn’t make that part that way to begin with….
My local bus shop saved the day again. Shop Foreman and lead tech came in on their day off to help me out.
Heading to Breckenridge, CO tomorrow afternoon!
