Need full hookups for 3 months immediately
Posted by Bill on September 27, 2022 at 11:49 amJust a wild shout out in hopes of some help or guidance. Friday I will need to have some spinal fusion surgery in San Luis Obispo. I will then not be able to drive for 3 months and we live full time in our RV. Does anyone have any connections or strings to pull that would get us somewhere to stay in the nearby surrounding areas where we could stay for 3 months. We didn’t know the recovery would be so long or that finding an RV park in the Fall in the area would be an issue. We are trying Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, literally anywhere nearby. Thanks for any thoughts or help.

Yes, thanks very much. We had talked to Tina about 3 months and that would not work. We tried everyone everywhere including Avila Beach at $150/night and no one could get us 3 months. We called Tina back to see if she could find us 1 month. She said she had a 38′ spot but would go pace it off to see if she could get us in there. We are, indeed, in for the 1st month. Hopefully, that will give us enough time to figure out the rest of the time. The surgeon says we might be able to drive after 2 months but only time will tell. I am very scared about this but extremely excited that this will finally end the extreme pain. I am very thankful to the forum and especially to Tina and the Paso Robles RV Ranch for accommodating us. By the way, we were working in Atascadero about a month ago for 2 weeks and that’s where we stayed during that time as well.

Bill,
Unfortunately, I cannot help you out with the site, but I can give you some insite into recovery post-fusion. I had L5/L4 fused 1.5 years ago and am VERY happy I did. I was in bed full time for about 3 days once I got home, then on the couch for about another week. The biggest issue was incision pain and getting my core to start working again. Once I got to that stage, all was good.
Just finished a 2 month tour of Colorado and Utah where my wife and I hiked quite a bit. One 8+ mile hike through a river bottom (in and out of the water) with no issues.
Hope you find a site that is suitable…..and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the surgery info. My bother is a Dr. and had the surgery as well. Too many parachute jumps as a Navy Seal/Army Special Forces. He said the same basic thing. This fusion is C4-6 so very high on the spine. The good news is that everyone says the extreme nerve pain will be gone the same day but, as you mentioned, muscle pain and pain from the movement of throat and windpipe along with back and shoulder muscles as the body is placed in a very uncomfortable position for the 3+ hour operation. I am scared but excited as I can’t have a good iife with this level of pain! Thanks to everyone and I will post on the other side of the operation!

Cervical pain is bad. I have some of that, but not bad enough for a fusion. I want to set your expectations correctly and caution you that I had some nerve pain for a few days post surgery. Anti-inflammatories will be your friend. Pain meds too. My story is long and complicated, but short story is I was on Opiods for pain for about 3 months prior to my surgery. Got addicted and had to kick the pill habit while recovering. Not fun. Good news I am now drug free, active and out of pain!
Good Luck to you!

Opoids are bad I know but I have used them successfully in the past short term. I just took a Perocet so if this goes wonky, sorry!
Interestingly enough, here in CA, someone, State, Hospital, Doctor, someone required that when I got the opoid prescription that I also purchase Narcan in case of an overdose. Not covered by insurance, of course.
Surgery was Friday and went well. ALL never pain is gone but quite a bit of muscle pain in the shoulder are due to the position on the table during the 3 hour surgery. He fused C3-6 so now it’s just a waiting game until I can get some semblance of normalcy to return. 2-3 months in a hard collar and no driving (riding OK).
I got home yesterday and and out walking a few times a day so overall I think it’s going to be a good experience.
Thanks again to all!

Bill, hoping that you have a complete pain-free recovery!
Maybe someone’s plans will change at the RV park and you will be able to stay for your full duration!
Take care,
Mark
