What a shame. Rick was always very generous with his time and expertise.

Very interested in the developments of this notion. We love our ’98 Marathon but the inconsistencies with the three Cruisair units is frustrating indeed. I’ve leased many coaches over the years with roof air and though efficient, I do like the functionality (and quiet) of the Cruisairs when they are operating properly. Travel quit a bit in the heat of summer, we definitely put them to the test. We also have Cruisairs in our 48′ Offshore.
I’m friends with a few coach builders/converters and they are all watching, waiting and speculating on what develops in this arena.
Not sure which marine AC company you are talking to but from our research, CTM makes some of the more promising products.

Just received an update from the company. Finding a reliable and energy efficient compressor that will fit in the current Cruisair box and yet allow enough room for a larger condenser and adequate size fan is a challenge, but the company engineer is determined to make it happen.

Chuck – just an FYI, Rick’s design used a 12K BTU compressor with a larger coil. The 12K BTU compressors were said to fit without modification and are available.

Chuck, LITERALLY just stumbled across this tribute video to Rick by his HVAC instructor. I stumbled across it after opening YouTube to research an issue. Thanks for sharing this great tribute video. I have always been much like Rick and always want to learn everything about anything. As I have gotten older I have lost interest in learning about everything and scaled down to learning only what is necessary. Watching the video about Rick has reignited my interest I learning again.

It’s happening:
The new replacement unit for our current Cruisair units will be on display at the 2023 Prevost Expo in Palm Beach.
The company engineer has spoken with Fred (from AAP) and got his thoughts/advice on producing the new units.

Are they planning on making and evap and condensing replacement? any clue on cost

Condensing unit with new compressor is what is being configured. Basically the entire outside Cruisair unit is being replaced as a direct drop in replacement. The goal is to have the new system work with the old evaporator and control boards to offer cost saving alternates if you don’t want to replace the entire system. The company does have new evaporators and control boards if a complete update is desired. System has been designed on a CAD program and parts are being collected at this time.
No pricing is available yet. Pricing will be available by the time Prevost Expo arrives.

I too am excited. The company has been around in the marine industry for years and more then competent to complete this goal.
They are looking to cover all the bases for an easy swap. I expect there will be a few obstacles in the first few installations, but the company is committed to making this happen.
