Need advice – IFS work
Posted by John on July 5, 2014 at 7:12 pmWe need to have bushings and boots replaced along with an alignment. This is no problem east of the Mississippi but we are based in Phoenix. Does anyone have first hand experience with shops nearby?

Prevost in Mira Loma, CA? Closest Prevost shop that I know of. Otherwise, maybe a local charter bus company could do it if they have Prevost experience?

John & Julie,
Check with Taylor Tours in Phoenix. Not sure about the alignment but they should be able to do anything else you need. They are Prevost certified and maintain a pretty large fleet of entertainer coaches. They did the PDI and a much of work on my 2007 Marathon and they know their stuff. Chris Weaver is their head Tech I think and Cheryl works things in the office. They are good people and should be able to help you out.

Bill,
Thanks for the input. Taylor Tours does not have the equipment to do the alignment. I read a post a while ago that did not seem flattering to Mira Loma. Does anyone have a recent experience with Mira Loma?

How do you know you need bushings?
When IFS was introduced a lot of owners spent a lot of money replacing A arms and bushings because the bushings looked bad. The bushings in the A arms will eventually look like they are failing, but in reality as long as the pin is secure, regardless of how the bushings look everything is OK.
I would go to Mira Loma. Regardless of what has been posted Prevost will still stand behind the work. If you are concerned, Fort Worth is another option.

I have had great luck at Mia Loma they did some front end work and 3 wheel aliment they are great

Divine Transpotation at Buckeye and S 7th street has a good great shop they run mostly MCI and Serta now but ran Prevost for years they do a lot of entertainers work and were doing Jerry Moyles the owner of Swift Transportation Prevost work, then you have Arrow Stage Lines it is a good shop but hard to to find time to do outside work .Mira Loma has always been hit and miss with me but like Jon said they do stand behind their workgood luck

John,
If you have concerns about Mira Loma , share that with service mgr. His job is to work with you and go between with you and the Tech. I would suggest you share with him that you would like using the tech that is the expert in that shop for the task you wish having fixed. If that tech is busy by all means wait or re-schedule.
Wanting quality work your request is very reasonable asking for the most qualified person.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Regarding Jon’s question about needing bushings, a technician at Jacksonville said they needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, Jacksonville did not have time to perform the work. One of my frustrations with owning a Prevost is the inability to get “unscheduled” work done when the items are found during the “scheduled” work. We as a group keep them busy and there is no slack in the scheduling. That said, Jacksonville did a great job of fitting us in with a weeks notice on an “unscheduled” radiator replacement. John, the service manager, was extremely helpful.. Hopefully the amount of “unscheduled” items will decrease as we work through the teething pains on this coach.

We just had our Charge Air Cooler replaced there last Tuesday. They did a great job and were very accomodating as we are full timers and had us and a cat to keep cool and entertained in the bus. They actually positioned us outside so that our satellite would work and we could keep the slides out. Even if you’re inside, they’ll keep you plugged in and allow you to stay in the bus. They were very responsive and helpful.

The service manager @ Mira Loma IS the problem. By and large, most of the techs are good but they do tend to oversell front end work on IFS coaches (see Jon’s post).
-
I agree with Joel, they seem to oversell the front end work…..on my bus I have receipts from prior pwner saying noise in front end (noise is still there today) so replace shocks….few thousand miles later noise still on right side, ok replace another shock.
I spoke to Dave about this at Prevost, he said could be stabilizer ball joint, they gave me a big quote…I bought the $70 part and will tackle it when it comes in.
Dave works nights at Mira Loma and seemed like a solid guy, he says he does most of the alignments, seemed like he knew his stuff. An alighnment is $600.
I sniffed around a bit, not a whole lot of other options, even the MD alighnments guys who know thier stuff don’t really have the means to tackle the busses. Oh well, here’s hoping we don’t need many alignments.

Dave the tech at Mia Loma is one of the best with the front ends and alignments he has done two coaches for me , the service Manager Dave is one of the best too

Well it seems that I have stirred up several opinions on Mira Loma. We have decided to give them a shot at the front end work. The question is how do we avoid getting oversold on work? It is apparent from the replys that front end work is oversold at more than one shop. Ideas?

Verify that they check the pin for play. Basically there should be no play in the pin I was told 1/16 is the max allowable movement. Not just check that the boot is gone….

Does anybody know the name of the current service mgr @ Mira Loma? It’s possible the individual with whom I’m not pleased has departed and I do not want to be slinging mud at ‘Dave’.
