Nail in tire
Well into week three of the grand adventure… so far so good…
Loved HHI, hated myrtle Beach… totally loved outer banks of NC… driving to Williamsburg area had some tunnel related drama… really bad directions to resort and to top it all off… somewhere along the way today I picked up a roofing nail in the CS tag… it’s not all the way in but it’s kinda on the side wall of the tire…
I was going to call Coach Net in the morning and see what they suggest…. neighbor here suggested it might be able to be hot patched from the inside…
Thought I would check here for input.

From my shop experience if the hole is in or near the side wall the patch will not hold, due to tire flexing.
Hot patch from the inside is the way to go as the repair will be permanent if installed properly.
Tell the kids part of there job is to watch for nails in the highway so you can miss them.

You maybe able to patch it but I never mess around with patching them if its in Sidewall that’s not good I don’t want a tire failure ever I would put new one on if the rest of tires are in good shape but that’s up to you if it’s on the tag that’s better than a steer tire

Ditto on the sidewall not being repairable.
But, is it truly in the sidewall? Have you pulled it out to see if you have a leak?
As a general rule if you have a puncture the recommended repair involves a plug as well as a patch inside the tire. Each tire manufacturer’s web site has specific requirements for tire repair listed.

How do I insert a picture here? Tried using the insert photo link and it’s asking for a url and has an upload button.
Is there a way to just Cut and paste it in?
Jon I haven’t tried to remove it as I thouhgt that would be a bad deal if I couldn’t stop the leak if it had pentrated the tire wall.

Hi Bill,
I know it’s a big pain…..but the tire needs to come off,the the rim to take a look inside.
After the nail is removed slowly this will give you the angle how the nail penetrated. You could get lucky to find no hole on the inside.
Get a comfort level if the tire needs to be replaced. No wiggle room on tires.

Bill, when you want to upload a picture click on “upload” and another box will appear. Using that box you can go to your photo library and select a photo. When you select the photo, click on “open” and that photo will be downloaded to the box that asks for the URL.
When the photo is downloaded, click on OK and it will appear in your box in which you are typing the post.
Remember before you go to select the photo place the cursor in the box in which you are typing the post.
Go ahead an play around. We won’t tell.

It’s not intuitive, but clicking on the upload button next to the URL link does work for inserting a picture from your computer files.

Gil, I picked up a nail in my tag port side while in florida last week pulled off the road to take a leak, not a good idea, lot’s of trash on the side of the road, I got lucky as the nail went in at the tread area and went in sideways so it did not lose any air checked it for five days and was still on 90 lbs Gary

OK guys… not sure if it is something with my browers… but I did get the upload button to work when I double clicked it and selected the image but just get the black boxes above…. What am I missing here?
Everything is good with the tire but I want to understand how to upload pics…

After you select your photo and then click “open” it will show up in the drop down box. To add it to your post you click on “okay”.
It will not load unless you have the cursor blinking in the reply box before you do anything else.
Maybe someone smarter on computers can explain it better than I can.
