  • Mystery Start

Posted by Bill on November 16, 2014 at 5:57 pm

While working in the barn all of a sudden the generator started. The bus is plugged in and the monitor reads

    volts 119——————-109 volts

    Hertz 59.9

    Amps .9——————-.05.2

The only thing running was a small plug in heater. I also had a large 50 amp heater going in the barn but that is on its own circuit. I shut off the generator and it didn’t come on again. Is this a warning of some kind ? I leave the automatic start on in case the power goes off. Any thoghts?

Is your auto start tied to battery voltage? Maybe they are low for some reason and that caused it?

BILL what happens when you turn off the small heater? Is there anything else running in the bus like water heaters? Something is pulling your volts in the bus down from 119 to 109.

    Bill,

You may want to rethink leaving the auto start on while in the garage, it could cause you serious problems with diesel smoke.

If you had a brief loss of shore power and low batteries, that may have started the gen. That’s assuming your auto start is set for voltage to start.

I put exhaust hose on gen pipe and run it out cat door in barn so if auto start goes on exhaust goes outside , got hose at my shop in Canada it’s for exhaust on trucks and cars when working on them in the shop
