  • Mysterious sound appeared today

Posted by JIM on December 18, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Today we noticed a sound eminating from inside the dash area, behind the stepwell upholstery. Removing the A/C louver panel there was nothing in the space that was the obvious source. Even more baffeling is what would cause the culprit to start making noise now. We have been parked for one month.

The sound is faint, but annoying, a two tone beep at a period of one second.

Any ideas on the cause and fix will be appreciated. In that area are the door lock module and fan motor and hooses and valves, not much more. I suspect the key module, but can not be sure.

    Jim,

As a second thought, the Allison Transmission pad also has a beeper. My Allision transmission pad was beeping when it failed. When I would turn the key off, the transmission pad would be three times. When it failed, it would beep 10 times. I asked the Allision tech about the beeps and he stated the beeps for troubleshooting was not a reliable means of finding an Allison issue.

    Thanks again Hector.

The case is closed for now as I find the sound is seemingly connected to the charge level of the engine batteries.

Might have been your alarm complaining about low chassis battery voltage.

Darrell, hit the jackpot. The cause was a damp engine compartment fire alarm. Parked in rain for several days created the situation. The cure run the engine to temp.
