  • Most miles seen.

Posted by Bill on September 21, 2021 at 12:29 pm

This kind of relates to a thread last week and also a conversation that a friend and I are having now.

What is the most miles that you have personally seen on a private Prevost Coach or entertainer? Do you know of any major engine or transmission rebuilds or replacements?

    Thanks

We did some work on Willy Nelson’s Prevost. I think it was a ’98 and we did the work in ’03 I believe. The bus had over 800,000 miles on it and was going strong. That bus is still on the road (saw picture from about 6 months ago) and being used by Willie’s son Lucas so it must be in the 2,000,000 mile range. I suspect there have been many repairs and replacements but it’s still on the road and still a great place to live and travel.

I think Charlie Daniels 2 XL’s may be in the 2 million range, Jeff maintained them maybe he’ll jump in here.

I think one of Charlie’s XL’s had an 8V92 in it as well.

Yes 1 million miles is not uncommon….I have one here that just rolled the million mile mark…usually in the range of 900k the engine is replaced..

    Interesting stuff guys, thanks.

What is the ballpark replacement cost of both an 8V92 and a series 60?

Great opportunity for American Fleet in Springfield Missouri to tell us the experiences they’ve had. Mileage and costs.

The guy from American Fleet (Brian, I think) that was a member here moved on a few years ago. I’m not sure that anyone else ever joined. They also moved to a different location in Springfield, MO.

When we had American Fleet replace our 8V92 the cost was about 1/2 the price of an in-chassis rebuild. I gave them the Prevost VIN number and they had a engine built and tested ready to be installed when I arrived. The engine was out the same day I arrived and they transferred a few parts from the old to the “new” and the engine was ready to be reinstalled the 2nd day. I think I paid around $13,000 but that was 10 years ago.

If anyone ever needs Detroit service in the Northeast I highly recommend Leid Diesel in Newville, PA. Great old school shop and very fairly priced. 717-776-7725
